Export market
Durian exports to China are facing difficulties due to strict quality control for heavy metal and pesticide residues. All shipments must be certified to meet standards, otherwise they can be rejected or destroyed. Export turnover in the first 6 months of 2025 decreased by 45%, reaching 611.5 million USD. Competition from Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines increased, with Thailand leading thanks to its high quality.
New control process
On August 4, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture issued Decision No. 3015/QD-BNNMT on "Food safety control process for fresh durian for export". The process requires standard growing areas and production facilities, with codes and traceability, and encourages international certification such as GAP and HACCP. Durian must meet standards on heavy metals and pesticide residues, and conform to import market standards.
