Pepper price today May 14 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on May 12 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,323/ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,918/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,800/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,200/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price remained stable from yesterday at $11,900/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,700 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,800 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,700/ton.

According to Ptexim, pepper prices last week tended to decrease at the beginning of the week due to weak demand and concerns about escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. However, the market has recovered thanks to increased demand in major markets.

Improvements in demand were noted in Europe, Asia and the US. In particular, China began to buy again, although in limited quantities. However, after the harvest season, farmers are not under much pressure to sell and tend to continue to hold on to their stocks, expecting prices to rise further.

Drewry’s global container rate index fell 1% to $2,076 per 40-foot container in the week ending May 10. While that is 80% lower than at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is still 46% higher than the pre-2019 average. Rates are expected to stabilize as shipping lines adjust capacity to accommodate the drop in demand from China.

In the international market, pepper prices remain high due to limited supply after the harvest season and expectations of increased demand from the Middle East and Europe in the second quarter. However, in general, pepper prices are flat or only fluctuate slightly. Although pepper prices this year have increased compared to the same period in 2024, the new pepper growing area has not increased due to limited land and the trend of farmers switching to other crops with higher economic efficiency.

In Brazil, pepper production in 2025 is forecast to reach 85,000 - 90,000 tons, a sharp increase compared to 75,000 tons last year. Espírito Santo state alone, the main production area, has completed the harvest with an output of about 20,000 tons.

According to Comexstat, Brazil exported 10,566 tons of pepper in April, earning $60.1 million. Although down slightly from the previous month, it was a sharp increase of 39.1% in volume and nearly double in value compared to the same period last year. Vietnam was the largest import market, with 4,993 tons, up 5.7 times compared to the previous year.

In the first four months of the year, Brazil exported 33,648 tons, reaching a turnover of 205.6 million USD, an increase of nearly 30% in volume and double in value.

Meanwhile, the average export price of pepper from Vietnam in the first four months of the year reached 6,110 USD/ton, up nearly 70% over the same period. In April alone, the pepper price reached 5,693 USD/ton, although down from the previous month, it was still 43.2% higher than the same period in 2024.
