Pepper price today June 3 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of pepper of all types traded in the international market on June 1 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price increased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 7,428/ton (up 0.01%). In addition, Muntok white pepper price also remained unchanged compared to yesterday at USD 10,129/ton (up 0.04%).

This year, the atmosphere of pepper harvest in Quang Tri is no longer as exciting as the 2024 crop. Instead, many farmers are worried about the risk of crop failure. Pepper gardens across the province are infected with disease, leaves are yellowing and wilting, and output has seriously decreased.

In Gio An commune, Gio Linh district, where there are nearly 77 hectares of pepper, of which more than 57 hectares are certified organic according to American, European and Japanese standards, this year's output is estimated to be only about 1/3 compared to the previous crop. In 2024, the yield will reach 1.3-1.5 tons/ha, but this year, many areas may not yield anything due to dead plants and poor fruit set.

The main reason is the unfavorable weather in 2024. Prolonged rain causes groundwater levels to rise, causing root rot, plant weakening, and reduced fruit set. After deducting fertilizer and care costs, most pepper growers are at a loss or have very low income.

Pepper is a key crop in the sustainable agricultural development orientation of Quang Tri, concentrated in hilly areas such as Gio Linh, Cam Lo, Vinh Linh and Huong Hoa. Currently, the whole province has about 2,000 hectares of pepper, of which nearly 1,900 hectares are being harvested.

Authorities are assessing the damage and providing guidance to farmers on how to restore their pepper gardens. The province is also researching new pepper varieties that are more resistant to disease. After the 2025 harvest, farmers will receive technical support for soil improvement, garden care, and upgrading irrigation systems to increase their ability to adapt to climate change.
