Domestic pepper prices are currently fluctuating continuously, causing farmers and traders to be cautious in purchasing and bringing goods to the market. This development reflects the instability in supply and demand and the risk-averse mentality of traders.

According to the General Department of Customs, in the first half of May, Vietnam exported more than 10,500 tons of pepper, worth nearly 75 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, this is a significant decrease in both volume and value. However, global pepper trade is still bustling in the first months of 2025, especially in the US and China, the two largest consumer markets.

In the short term, domestic pepper prices may decrease slightly due to unstable export demand and tight supply. However, in the medium and long term, the global supply shortage may prevent pepper prices from falling further, and even create opportunities for recovery.

Pepper price today June 4 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Community (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on June 3 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,428/ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,129/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at $6,650/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,100/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $11,850/ton.

Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of 500 gr/l black pepper in Vietnam reached 6,500 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,600 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,500/ton.

In India, pepper production is expected to decline but prices have yet to recover. Despite lower new production, large inventories from last year, coupled with cheap imports from Vietnam and Sri Lanka, continue to weigh on the market. Regional free trade policies have also made it easier for foreign pepper to flood into India at low tariffs, undermining the advantage of domestic products.

Internationally, pepper prices in many producing countries such as Vietnam, Malaysia and Brazil have all decreased by 150-200 USD/ton over the past month. Indonesia is a rare country showing signs of a slight recovery. The main reason for the decline in global prices is the instability in the US tariff policy, which has made import partners hesitant to sign new contracts. At the same time, the sharp increase in shipping costs of 20-30% over the past week continues to increase cost pressure.

Analysts say that in the coming time, pepper prices will fluctuate within a narrow range and depend heavily on demand from the US and China as well as the storage capacity of export businesses.
