In the process of implementing the construction of new rural areas and model new rural areas, Gia Van commune has always received the attention of all levels and sectors, the support of agencies, businesses and children of the homeland who are working and living in all regions of the country.
As a result, the commune has completed 18/18 criteria and the Provincial People's Committee issued a decision to recognize Gia Van commune as meeting the NTM standards in 2015. In December 2019, Gia Van commune was honored to be one of the first 3 units recognized by the Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee as meeting the advanced NTM standards.
From favorable natural and social conditions, Gia Vien district has selected and submitted to the Provincial People's Committee to select Gia Van to register to build a model new rural area in the field of tourism. The Party Committee, government, and people's organizations have raised their determination to successfully carry out the emulation task with the whole country to build new rural areas.
With the right policy, many contents and programs are implemented, activities to attract investment projects, encourage and create conditions for economic sectors to participate in tourism development, Gia Van's tourism products are effectively implemented.
Specifically, the function of both sides of the main road is converted into a mixed tourism service form. Homestays and family tourism services are encouraged to develop, communication and promotion activities are promoted, and the quality of tourism services is improved. At Van Long tourist site and the "Green Van Long" tourist route, ... attracting and appealing to tourists, especially foreign tourists, this place has now become a key tourist area of the province.
The tourist map is getting more and more prominent, Gia Vien has become a district that owns 2 records of the Vietnam Record Book Center: "The place with the largest number of Delacour's langurs" and "The place with the largest natural picture". Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve is recognized as a world Ramsar site and the 9th Ramsar site of Vietnam.
With its unique tourism resources, Van Long has become an important tourist destination of the district, contributing to connecting Gia Vien tourist areas and routes with regional tourist areas and destinations of neighboring provinces such as Hoa Binh, Hanoi, Ha Nam and Nam Dinh...
In terms of tourism business results in the period of 2022-2024, Van Long Ecotourism Cooperative welcomed over 174,000 visitors, with a total revenue of 16.63 billion VND, of which 3.47 billion VND was paid to the state budget. Currently, the whole commune has 540 households with nearly 1,000 workers participating in various types of services and tourism, with an estimated revenue of over 76.7 billion VND in 2024.
After 4 years of focusing on building an advanced NTM commune and completing the model NTM criteria, up to now, the economic structure of Gia Van commune has shifted towards industry, services and trade accounting for 87.8%, of which business and services account for 35.3%; average annual income per capita increased from 68 million VND (in 2022) to 82.48 million VND/person (in 2024).
With achievements in the movement to build new rural areas, the period 2021-2025, Gia Van has completed 100% of the prescribed criteria and was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting the model new rural standards in the tourism sector in 2024.
