Oil prices were supported by news that China has temporarily exempted some US pharmaceuticals from a 125% import tariff that Beijing imposed earlier this month in retaliation for the Trump administration’s 145% tariff.

According to statistics, the average price of crude oil traded on the market in April decreased by over 9%, of which WTI oil decreased by about 9.5%, light sweet Brent oil decreased by 8.4%. Compared to the same period last year, crude oil prices have decreased sharply, on average decreasing from 24% to nearly 25%.

Brent crude futures have fallen 11% since early April, amid the possibility that OPEC+ could continue to increase supply in the coming months, according to TradingEconomics.

Meanwhile, the United States has imposed new restrictions on a key Iranian figure involved in shipping LPG and crude oil, fueling speculation that the sanctions could limit Iran's exports.

However, experts say the outlook for oil prices to rise in the short term is not very optimistic. Mr. Ole Hansen from Saxo Bank said that trade tensions between major oil consuming countries will continue, while OPEC+ may accelerate its plan to increase production from June, making it difficult for oil prices to increase sharply.

In addition to pressure from supply, geopolitical developments are also starting to have an impact. Notably, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy on April 25 was considered “constructive”. If the disagreement over Ukraine is narrowed, oil supplies from Russia to the international market could increase.
