Mango, jackfruit, dragon fruit prices down
Currently, the harvest season of fruits across the country is entering, causing some types to drop in price. Particularly in Binh Thuan , not only mango and jackfruit are having low prices, the price of off-season dragon fruit at the garden is only sold for 4,000 - 8,000 VND/kg depending on the type. Of which, the price of buying in bulk at the garden is only 4,000 VND/kg, the price of buying selected, meeting export standards ranges from 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg.

Because it is an off-season dragon fruit, the cost of lighting, fertilizer, etc. leads to the cost of 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg for growers to recover their capital. With the current selling price, gardeners are facing losses.
According to dragon fruit traders in Binh Thuan, the price of this fruit has been falling rapidly over the past month. If in April 2025, the export price of this fruit was over 10,000 VND/kg, now it is only bought for 4,000 VND (buying in bulk). Currently, type 4 dragon fruit is only purchased for 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg. In many gardens, traders cut this type because they cannot afford the transportation cost.
Not only dragon fruit, the price of Thai jackfruit in the Mekong Delta has also plummeted. Currently, grade 1 jackfruit is only 4,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, down more than half compared to 1 month ago. The same situation is happening with Australian mango in Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa province. If last year, good quality Australian mango could be sold for 30,000 VND/kg, now traders only pay 3,000 - 8,000 VND/kg, or even do not come to buy.
Speaking with reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - said, The reason for the rapid decrease in dragon fruit prices is that this is the peak harvest season for main fruits. In addition, dragon fruit importing countries such as China have also actively produced a lot, which has affected the purchase price.
As for jackfruit and bananas, currently Vietnam’s largest consumer market, China, is also entering the harvest season, causing import demand to decrease significantly. Not only that, Vietnamese bananas also have to compete with bananas from Laos and Cambodia.
Quality goods still sell at high prices
Although the general situation is like that, many types of fruit with guaranteed high quality still maintain good selling prices.
Talking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Tran Dinh Trung - Director of Thuan Tien Dragon Fruit Cooperative - said that thanks to the application of scientific and technological advances in production, the cooperative members have met the standards for exporting dragon fruit to the EU, US, Australia, China, etc. markets, so the current selling price of dragon fruit of the cooperative members is still commonly at 21,000 - 23,500 VND/kg. The cooperative also signed consumption contracts with partners for 1-3 years, so as long as farmers grow according to the correct standards, they will not worry about output or selling price.
Similarly, at Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh's 5ha dragon fruit garden in Ham Duc commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, cultivated according to GlobalGAP standards, meeting strict inspection requirements with more than 900 active ingredients required by importers. Therefore, the selling price remains stable at VND24,000 - 26,000/kg. Each month, the gardener regularly harvests nearly 20 tons and sells them to businesses in Ho Chi Minh City for export to demanding markets.
Summer is the season of fruit products , in the context of many types of fruit being harvested at the same time, it is easy to lead to a situation of good harvest and falling prices. Regarding this, in an interview with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy said that the Ministry will promote the work of improving forecasting capacity, guiding businesses and people to organize production according to market signals, not allowing the situation of supply and demand imbalance to occur, especially during the main season.
In addition, the ministry also directed localities to support businesses in expanding processing facilities, storage facilities, and temporary storage warehouses so that during the main harvest season, businesses can increase temporary purchases, thereby being able to export for a long time. Thereby, reducing consumption pressure when fruits enter the main harvest season.
At the same time, expanding and diversifying export markets is also very important. Therefore, through negotiations, removing technical barriers, promoting trade, expanding new markets with good potential for consuming Vietnamese agricultural products such as: South America, Africa, Middle East, ... besides traditional markets such as China, the United States, EU, Japan. At that time, Vietnamese agricultural products will reduce risks in case of fluctuations or problems in a certain market;....
Faced with the sharp drop in agricultural product prices, many localities have taken the initiative to take action. However, according to experts, the core issue is to form a sustainable value chain. Along with that, promoting deep processing is also an important solution, which not only increases the value of products but also reduces consumption pressure at the time of peak harvest of agricultural products and fruits. |
