National Chess Championship brings together experts

This year's top domestic chess tournament took place from April 19 to 27 with the participation of 126 players from 14 provinces, cities and sectors across the country. Except for the absence of famous player Trenh A Sang (HCMC) due to illness, the tournament gathered almost all the best players, the men's group had Lai Ly Huynh (Binh Duong), Nguyen Thanh Bao, Ha Van Tien (Binh Phuoc), Ton That Nhat Tan (Da Nang), Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang, Vu Quoc Dat (HCMC).

Over 100 players from 14 delegations attended the tournament.

2024 Standard Chess Champion Vu Quoc Dat (HCMC)

According to experts, the reigning champion of the standard chess category, Vu Quoc Dat (HCMC), will face fierce competition from strong opponents and will not be able to defend his title easily.

Meanwhile, the 2024 female champion Nguyen Hoang Yen (HCMC) is expected to break her own record as she has won all three categories of standard, rapid, and blitz at three national championship seasons. If Hoang Yen sets a new record, it will be an unprecedented feat for Vietnamese chess.

In this year's tournament, players compete in four categories including standard chess, rapid chess, blitz chess and super blitz chess for both men and women. In the standard chess category, players compete in 7 rounds of the Swiss system, selecting the 8 highest ranked male and 8 highest ranked female players to enter the knockout round.

The players entered the first two games of the standard chess content.

In the three categories of rapid, blitz and super blitz, players compete in the Swiss system 8+1 format. After round 8, the two players ranked 1st and 2nd will meet to compete for first and second place; the two players ranked 3rd and 4th will meet to compete for third and fourth place.

According to experts, with the participation of many top players, plus the innovation in competition format, this year's tournament promises to feature many attractive and highly professional competitions.

On the opening day, the tournament will feature the first two games of standard chess. This event will run until April 24, followed by blitz, rapid and blitz chess.
