Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University wants local authorities to lend students money to go to school

The Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University expressed his wish that the locality would have a fund to lend money to students to study, so that excellent students would have the opportunity to access university education.

Train at least 100 masters and doctors for Dong Thap province

On the afternoon of April 18, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Dong Thap province signed a cooperation agreement for the 2025-2030 period to develop science, technology, innovation and digital transformation activities. This cooperation is carried out through scientific research, technology development; innovation, technology transfer; training; policy consulting in the spirit of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on national scientific, technological and innovation breakthroughs.

Accordingly, the two sides will cooperate comprehensively in 8 key areas to build connections, share potentials, and coordinate the effective implementation of research contents and transfer of scientific and technological applications. Specifically, such as popularizing, thoroughly understanding, and propagating to raise awareness; ways to exploit digital data through specialized reports on digital transformation. In which, focusing on topics using artificial intelligence in the operation and administration of state management agencies; methods of managing and exploiting data on digital platforms; ensuring security.

Notably, according to the agreement, Ho Chi Minh City National University will cooperate in training at least 100 domestic and foreign masters and doctors according to the province's needs, support educational quality assessment and build a quality assurance system at educational institutions in the province. This university will also advise, review, and support the development of institutions and policies for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in Dong Thap province...

Also at the ceremony, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, Ho Chi Minh City National University and Vinh Hoan Joint Stock Company signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the aim of bringing science and technology activities to effectively serve the common development of the three units. This is the first "3-house" cooperation model (school - locality - enterprise) deployed by this University to concretize activities in the spirit of Resolution No. 57.

No scholarships but student loans

Sharing during the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, shared: "I really hope that in one way or another, the province will have a fund for students to borrow money to study. Not to provide scholarships but to provide students with loans to be responsible, loans to have a commitment to return to work. Like Singapore, they provide scholarships for Vietnamese students to study, but after finishing their studies, they must stay and work for them for 4-5 years. I hope that the locality and businesses will accompany excellent students, helping them have the opportunity to access university education."

In addition, the Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University also wishes to accompany in training to improve the quality of local human resources. Associate Professor Quan said that there should be a way to train highly qualified human resources but linked to businesses.

"People say that contributions can be made anywhere, but contributions can be direct and indirect, large and small. But if you want to contribute directly and make a large contribution, you have to come back, because it is difficult to do it far away. Therefore, we need a model and a way to accompany Dong Thap province in training human resources," the Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University hopes.

According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City National University, the number of students from Dong Thap province studying at member schools of the system is more than 680. Previously, leaders of Dong Thap province visited and presented gifts to students of the province residing at the Ho Chi Minh City National University dormitory.
