The city also needs to organize surveillance and early detection to localize and manage cases; prevent infection in the community through vaccination campaigns, disease prevention instructions, and self-monitoring of health at home and in the community.

That is the opinion of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology ( Ministry of Health ) delegation after an inspection on March 28 on the implementation of the measles vaccination campaign in Hanoi.

A working delegation from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (Ministry of Health ), led by Professor, Dr. Phan Trong Lan, Director, inspected and worked with the Hanoi Department of Health on the implementation of the measles vaccination campaign; admission and treatment of patients in the capital.

The working group inspected the measles vaccination at Yen Nghia Ward Health Station (Ha Dong District).

At the time of inspection, the organization and implementation of the measles vaccination campaign of Yen Nghia Ward Health Station was carried out carefully from the reception, screening, vaccination, post-vaccination monitoring, consultation, and dissemination of measures to prevent and control measles.

According to the report of Yen Nghia Ward Health Station, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the ward has recorded 14 cases of measles (including 3 cases from 6 to under 9 months old). Notably, 100% of the cases have not been vaccinated or have only received 1 dose of measles vaccine.

Through statistics and screening, the total number of children aged 6 to under 9 months in the ward is currently 224, of which 164 have been vaccinated against measles, the rest are expected to complete vaccination during the campaign today (March 28) and will be updated and reported according to regulations.

Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong reported on the measles epidemic situation in the city.

Meanwhile, reporting on the work of admitting and treating measles at Hanoi Children's Hospital to the working delegation, Deputy Director of Hanoi Children's Hospital, Dr. Do Thi Thuy Nga said: As of March 26, Hanoi Children's Hospital has treated 277 measles patients, of which 233 have recovered, and 44 are being treated at the hospital.

The hospital always focuses on the work of controlling and preventing cross-infection in the hospital, especially the work of triaging, early and accurate diagnosis of measles cases from admission to isolation rooms and treatment areas, which is carried out synchronously and methodically.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Vu Cao Cuong said that from the beginning of the year to March 27, the entire city had recorded 1,474 cases of rash fever suspected of measles, of which 1,320 were confirmed measles cases (accounting for 90%). Patients were recorded in all districts, towns and cities in the city.

Notably, the results of the analysis of some epidemiological characteristics of confirmed measles cases showed that most of the patients were children under 5 years old (accounting for 64%) and had not been vaccinated or had not received 2 doses of vaccine (accounting for 83%).

Currently, the Hanoi health sector is focusing on continuing to implement the measles vaccination campaign for children from 6 to under 9 months old under the direction of the Ministry of Health and the City People's Committee from February 17, 2025. Speaking at the meeting, Professor, Dr. Phan Trong Lan, on behalf of the working delegation, acknowledged and highly appreciated the direction and response to the measles epidemic prevention and control of the Hanoi health sector in recent times. However, measles is currently increasing in many areas around the world as well as in Vietnam, including Hanoi. In particular, Hanoi is a place of exchange and travel between regions and localities, making the risk of measles spreading even higher.
