Mundo Deportivo, a newspaper based in Barcelona (Spain), commented: "Unique, unprecedented, unrepeatable or unattainable. Any language used to comment on Messi is appropriate. Messi won his first Ballon d'Or 14 years ago at the age of 22.

This year, El Pulga is 36 years old and has 3 children. That shows that no one can catch up with Messi's level even at this age. At the age of 36, many players retire or no longer play at the top level.
But Lionel Messi is always an exception. No one can argue that Messi will win the 2023 Ballon d'Or. The Argentine star is the best player of all time."
AS (Spain) headlined "Messi's great Golden Ball" and affirmed that in the future no player can reach the Argentine star's record.

Another Spanish sports daily Marca commented: "Messi won his eighth FIFA Ballon d'Or convincingly, that is beyond dispute. But Jude Bellingham's best young player award is equally impressive given the Englishman's contribution to Real Madrid.
Spanish football also had a memorable Gala, when Aitana Bonmati won the Women's Ballon d'Or. She had a memorable 2023 when she shone in Barcelona's shirt and especially won the World Cup with the Spanish women's team.
At the awards ceremony in Paris (France) on the evening of October 30, Messi won the FIFA Ballon d'Or for the 8th time by France Football magazine. Previously, Messi was honored by France's number one sports magazine in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019 and 2021. Erling Haaland won the Silver Ball and Kylian Mbappe won the Bronze Ball.
The Daily Mail (UK) also praised Messi: "Haaland, Mbappe and De Bruyne are all big rivals of Messi in the race for the 2023 Ballon d'Or. However, Messi still surpassed all opponents to reign as the world's number one player."

The British daily also highly appreciated Man City's success last season, when coach Pep Guardiola's team had 5 players in the top 10 nominees for the 2023 Golden Ball, including Haaland (2nd), De Bruyne (4th), Rodri (5th), Julian Alvarez (7th), Bernardo Silva (9th).
Finally, the newspaper Ole (Argentina) used beautiful words to praise its favorite player: "Lionel Messi is at the top of world football and continues the great journey of his career.
El Pulga has changed the history of Argentine football. Messi's Ballon d'Or award is even more meaningful because he was honored on the birthday of the late legend Diego Maradona."
