Hanoi Police Club held a huge advantage in the second leg of the Southeast Asian Cup final against Buriram United when they led 2-0 until the 83rd minute. However, the team could not maintain that result and the opponent leveled the score at 2-2. After that, each team scored 1 goal in extra time, before the Thai club won the penalty shootout.

The fact that the Vietnamese team missed out on the championship title made many people feel regretful. Coach Mano Polking also admitted that this was an extremely painful defeat.
Sharing on his personal page, the Brazilian coach said: "A painful defeat. Really too painful. It's hard for me to explain this feeling but we have to believe that it's part of the development process and part of life.
I am very proud of my players. They were real lions, fighting hard against a great team. It breaks my heart because I know they deserved more. Now it is time for the team to hold their heads high and move forward."

Meanwhile, captain Quang Hai shared: "We fought with all our might. That's what makes me feel proud. I'm not satisfied with the referee's decisions, especially in the second half. In many situations, the referee handled things in a way that was unfavorable to us. The extra time was also longer than the original.
These things make us question. This is football. We have to accept and respect the referee's decision."
For now, coach Mano Polking and his players need to put aside the sadness of losing the match to play the rest of the V-League. They will play the next two matches against Hanoi FC (May 26) and Binh Duong (May 30) before many players join the national team. Although they have to play a make-up match against Binh Dinh on June 3, the Hanoi Police Club still commits to releasing players to the national team.
