Local history education for students: Closer and more practical

For example, at Kha Son Secondary School, to help generations of students better understand local history, the school always prioritizes organizing extracurricular activities. In most school years, the school organizes students to visit and experience historical sites and red addresses in the commune in particular and Phu Binh district in general. In the 2022-2023 school year, on the occasion of the traditional Spring Festival of Kha Son Ha communal house - Lang Ca pagoda, the school brought hundreds of students to attend the Festival because these relics are places that mark many historical events. Here, students learned about the origin, restoration and embellishment process of this cluster of National Historical Relics and the revolutionary tradition of their locality.

Or at Huong Son Secondary School, local history education is implemented by the school by integrating it into the lessons of subjects such as History, Geography, Literature; guiding students to find information through books and documents stored in the school library, especially the content in the book Local Party History.

In addition, the School also organizes extracurricular activities with high traditional education value such as taking care of and visiting the Martyrs' Cemetery; visiting and learning about places where historical events took place in the district...

Hoang Ha Linh, a 9D student at Huong Son Secondary School, said: I really like the lessons about local history. In those lessons, the teacher collected many videos and historical documents to put on the projector for students to understand easily and create excitement when studying. In addition, the teacher also guided me and my friends to play multiple choice games; create a table of milestones of years and corresponding events to remember local historical events for a long time and deeply.

To improve the quality of local history education for students, right from the beginning of the school year, schools have developed school year plans, subject plans and assigned teachers to teach, integrating and connecting to reality through subjects. In particular, historical materials are always ensured by teachers to be scientific , vivid, and suitable for students of each level so that students can have the most general idea about the history of formation, development and traditions of their homeland.

In addition, to accurately assess students' level of absorption, spirit and attitude in order to promptly adjust and improve teaching effectiveness, schools have had many good ways such as: Organizing question and answer sessions in classes and activities; integrating into test questions; organizing tours to historical sites...

The content of propaganda and education mainly focuses on historical events, figures, and examples of sacrifice of national heroes. According to the assessment of many schools in Phu Binh district, most students are excited to participate in activities about the source, actively interacting with teachers in local history lessons.

In particular, organizing experiential activities has brought a lot of excitement to students when they get to go to places and see with their own eyes the historical sites of the locality. Thereby creating conditions for them to promote their initiative in finding information about historical sites and relics.

Not only focusing on propaganda and teaching about local history, schools in the district also organize many meaningful activities, such as: Taking care of martyrs' cemeteries; visiting and helping families with meritorious services... Mr. Nguyen Dinh Toan, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Phu Binh district, said: The Department has directed all schools in the district to focus on linking theory with practice in local history education by actively organizing extracurricular activities. Thereby helping students appreciate, preserve and promote the traditional values of their homeland, have the consciousness to strive and practice in studying to become good children and good students.
