Physics Professor Officially Becomes Rector of University of Health Sciences

The new principal of the University of Health Sciences is a physics professor who has published 250 articles in SCIE journals, of which 10 international publications were published in scientific journals listed in the Nature index.

Professor Phan Bach Thang was appointed as Rector of the University of Health Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) from June 1.

Ho Chi Minh City National University has just issued a decision to transfer Professor Phan Bach Thang, Director of the Center for Research on Nanostructured and Molecular Materials, to work at the University of Health Sciences. Professor Phan Bach Thang was appointed as the Rector of the University of Health Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) from June 1.

Professor Phan Bach Thang was born in 1979, from Thai Binh . He received his PhD in advanced materials science and technology from Sungkyunkwan University (Korea) in 2009 and was appointed professor of physics in 2022.

Mr. Thang has a lot of management experience from the department level, faculty level, to the head of the unit under Ho Chi Minh City National University from 2009 to present. In professional work, Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang also has a lot of experience in training, chairing, participating in scientific research topics and has many scientific publications and inventions related to the field of health sciences. Up to now, he has published 250 articles in SCIE journals (10 international publications published in scientific journals in the Nature index). In addition, Mr. Thang was also elected to hold the position of Vice President of the Vietnam Materials Science Association (2023-2028); Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Magnetic Physics (2017 to present); Member of the Executive Committee of the Asian Magnetism Alliance (2017 to present); Member of the Scientific Council of the Physics Sector of the NAFOSTED Fund (2017 to present); Chairman of the Scientific Council of Applied Research of the NAFOSTED Fund for the term 2024-2026; Member of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Council of Science and Technology of Materials, Ho Chi Minh City National University (2017 to present); Member of the Professorial Council of Physics Sector (2024 to present).

The Prime Minister decided to establish the University of Health Sciences on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine under the Ho Chi Minh City National University in June 2024. In early March 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City National University Council held its 24th meeting of the 4th term. At the meeting, members of the Ho Chi Minh City National University Council voted to recognize Prof. Dr. Phan Bach Thang, Director of the Center for Research on Nanostructured and Molecular Materials, as the Rector of the University of Health Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
