More than 230 doctors, nurses and medical experts in the US have called on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to release his medical records and said he should be transparent about his health.

“Mr. Trump does not currently meet the standards to serve in this important office and has shown signs of cognitive impairment,” CBS News quoted the October 13 letter signed by 238 doctors, nurses and medical professionals. The group said they were deeply concerned after observing Mr. Trump’s behavior. The letter was initiated by the group “Doctors for Harris”, an independent group not affiliated with Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign. The doctors, nurses and medical professionals stressed that presidential candidates have always had an obligation to release their medical records. Previously, in the 2020 White House race with President Joe Biden, Mr. Trump released the results of a medical examination in June, before the official election day. The letter noted that without detailed medical records, the public could only speculate from Mr. Trump’s public appearances.
“As we age, we lose our sense of humor and act on instinct. We see that with Trump, when he appears publicly at campaign rallies to ramble and attack the things he is dissatisfied with,” the doctors wrote. The letter was sent in the context of Ms. Harris pressuring Mr. Trump to release his medical records in an interview on October 14. “I released my medical records. He (Donald Trump) will not release his medical records. And you wonder why his staff would do that? They probably think he is not ready, not fit, not stable. This is a lack of transparency for the American people,” Ms. Harris said. Ms. Harris's campaign is emphasizing the age difference between the two presidential candidates. Previously, on October 12, the White House released Ms. Harris' health records and affirmed that the Democratic candidate "possesses the physical and mental stamina necessary to successfully perform the duties of the presidency."
