“Drops of love”, spreading noble deeds in the midst of emergency blood shortage

Recently, the provincial General Hospital has faced a shortage of blood for emergency and patient treatment. There were times when the hospital's blood bank only fluctuated around 200 units. In addition to the increase in the number of patients, especially severe cases, one of the main reasons was that some localities could not carry out voluntary blood collection activities according to the plan of the Provincial Steering Committee for Humanitarian Blood Donation.

Many people went directly to the Department of Hematology - Blood Transfusion of the Provincial General Hospital to donate blood voluntarily.

Master Hoang Quoc Anh - Deputy Head of the Department of Hematology - Blood Transfusion, Provincial General Hospital said: "Blood plays a very important role, nothing can replace it in emergency and treatment, so when the blood source is in short supply, the hospital has had to synchronously deploy many solutions to supplement the blood source such as: calling on cadres, medical staff and patients' relatives to donate blood; calling on all classes of people to come to the hospital to donate blood voluntarily".

It is known that since the organization called on people to participate in voluntary blood donation, the Provincial General Hospital has received many cadres, civil servants, employees, workers, youth union members, and medical staff coming to the Hematology - Blood Transfusion Department to donate blood drops, adding to the hospital's blood bank.

Doctors and nurses at the provincial general hospital also actively participated in blood donation.

Mr. Phan Dinh Tuan (Can Loc district) shared: "Immediately after receiving information about the provincial General Hospital's shortage of blood, affecting emergency and treatment activities, I quickly contacted the hospital to donate blood. Hopefully, with my blood unit, I will contribute to saving patients and further spreading the voluntary blood donation movement."

With the support and response of many people, in a short time, the Department of Hematology - Blood Transfusion of the Provincial General Hospital received over 200 units of blood donated directly at the department.

In particular, recently, the Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union in collaboration with the Provincial General Hospital successfully organized the blood donation festival “Red Drops of Love”. The festival attracted a large number of youth union members throughout the province to participate. The Organizing Committee collected 365 units of blood, thereby, adding a valuable addition to the blood bank of the Provincial General Hospital.

The provincial general hospital's blood bank has received over 200 units of blood donated directly by people at the hospital.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union said: "Voluntary blood donation activities have always received attention, coordination and active participation from all levels of the Youth Union and Associations in the whole province. However, in the context of a shortage of blood at the Provincial General Hospital, it is extremely necessary to flexibly and promptly organize a blood donation festival, thereby promoting the role, responsibility and spirit of youth for the community, especially in difficult times."

The Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union in collaboration with the Provincial General Hospital organized a voluntary blood donation festival.

With the strong response of cadres, civil servants, union members, medical staff and people, up to now, the blood bank of the Provincial General Hospital has reached over 500 units of blood, thereby meeting the needs of emergency and treatment for patients at the Provincial General Hospital in particular and medical facilities in the whole province in general.

The festival "Drops of love" attracted a large number of cadres, union members and young people to participate.

Dr. Le Ngoc Thanh - Deputy Director of the Provincial General Hospital emphasized: "Hereby, we would like to thank the agencies, units, organizations and individuals who responded and actively participated in the recent blood donation campaign of the hospital. However, the preservation and use of blood has a certain time limit, so it is likely that in the near future, the risk of blood shortage will continue to occur, greatly affecting emergency and treatment.

Therefore, we hope to continue to receive active participation from agencies, units and individuals in voluntary blood donation. At the same time, localities need to promptly deploy blood collection campaigns according to the plan allocated by the Provincial Steering Committee for Humanitarian Blood Donation".
