Before the High-Tech Radiation Therapy Center (under the Department of Oncology - Nuclear Medicine of the Provincial General Hospital) came into operation, each year Ha Tinh had about 2,000 cancer patients who had to be transferred to other hospitals for chemotherapy/radiation therapy, with the treatment lasting for months. Now, after nearly 1 year of operation, the center has treated over 120 patients with more than 3,500 chemotherapy/radiation sessions. That is the result of the effort to both study to improve expertise and learn to master the equipment.

Dr. Vo Van Phuong - Head of the Department of Oncology - Nuclear Medicine said: "The center has invested in a modern equipment system with a multi-energy linear accelerator radiotherapy system with a 160-leaf collimator, a 16-row SIM CT simulator. These are modern devices that help accurately simulate the location, size and shape of the tumor, allowing for more effective and safe planning and radiotherapy. However, to master the equipment, the team of doctors, engineers and technicians always have to study diligently in many technical transfer sessions of experts from the Central level."

In the early days of operation, with the "hands-on" support of experts from leading hospitals such as: K Hanoi , Central Military Hospital 108, Central Hue... the team of engineers, doctors, and technicians of the center gradually mastered the equipment as well as treatment methods. Up to now, the center's team has operated stably with advanced radiotherapy techniques such as: dose modulation (IMRT), image localization (IGRT) and combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy regimens.

“We apply multi-modal (multi-specialty) consultation to agree on the optimal treatment direction for each case. For difficult cases, the hospital organizes online consultations with central experts, ensuring that the treatment regimen is always updated and treatment is safe and effective,” Dr. Phuong added.

One of the typical cases that received effective treatment was Mr. Le Khac Than (born in 1970, in Huong Khe commune), who had rectal cancer with multiple liver metastases. After consulting with a doctor, Mr. Than decided to receive treatment at the Ha Tinh High-Tech Radiation Therapy Center using palliative methods. After 6 months of chemotherapy combined with targeted therapy, the diagnostic results showed that the liver lesions responded completely, and the rectal lesions responded almost completely.

Dr. Le Van Cuong (Department of Oncology - Nuclear Medicine) shared: “After 6 months of treatment, we evaluated by endoscopy, MRI, ultrasound and cancer marker testing, the results showed that the lesions responded very well. This is an encouraging result, showing the clear effectiveness of the current technique at the center”.

The equipment, capacity, dedication and actual treatment effectiveness at Ha Tinh High-Tech Radiation Therapy Center have written a new story about high-tech medical care at the provincial level. More and more patients trust and stay for treatment.

Doctor Le Van Cuong discussed the treatment process for patient Nguyen Thi Ly's family.

Mr. Tran Van Luong - son of patient Nguyen Thi Ly (born in 1954, in Thach Xuan commune) shared: “My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer by doctors of the Oncology - Nuclear Medicine Department. After learning about the equipment and capabilities of the doctors and coordinating consultations, asking for treatment advice from central hospitals, my family decided to treat my mother locally. Up to now, my mother has received 2 radiation sessions and started the first cycle of chemotherapy. My mother's health is quite stable and what makes me most secure is the caring and attentive attitude of the medical team here. Treatment in our hometown also helps us to take better care of my mother.”

After nearly 1 year of operation, the High-Tech Radiation Therapy Center, Department of Oncology - Nuclear Medicine has affirmed the local cancer treatment capacity, helping patients avoid having to transfer to other facilities. Each patient is treated effectively, each new technique is mastered, which is the foundation for Ha Tinh to firmly step on the journey of developing modern healthcare, meeting the treatment needs of the people.
