16-year-old golfer Nguyen Duc Son won the Tien Phong Golf Championship 2023

Closing the exciting and challenging competition day, surpassing many potential candidates, 16-year-old golfer Nguyen Duc Son excellently won the championship (Best Gross) with a score of 69 strokes. This was the first time this golfer competed in the tournament and immediately won the championship. Although satisfied with the result, Duc Son still regretted that he could have achieved a better score: "I have played at the Kings Course many times and found this to be a challenging course with difficult terrain. I scored 8 birdies, but had a double bogey at hole 15 and a bogey at hole 17. I could have achieved a higher score", Duc Son shared when winning the Championship Cup.

Thus, except for the inaugural season in 2017, the Tien Phong Golf Championship has been won by “teenage” golfers born after 2000, including Nguyen Bao Long (2005), Nguyen Vu Quoc Anh (2003), Nguyen Nhat Long (2003), Nguyen Anh Minh (2007) and now Nguyen Duc Son (2007). Among these golfers, Duc Son is one of two golfers who won the tournament with a negative score. Currently, Nguyen Anh Minh, with a score of (-8) in last year’s season, holds the record for the score of the tournament and the BRG Kings Island Golf Resort.

Having been involved with the tournament since its early seasons as a professional advisor, Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Golf Association, said that the tournament has grown in both scale and quality, as well as spreading the meaning of the tournament, becoming an unmissable meeting place for golfers throughout the year. “Over seven seasons, Tien Phong Golf Championship has always actively innovated and improved to become one of the most attractive and anticipated amateur tournaments of the year. In particular, the tournament has a separate youth group that other amateur tournaments almost do not have, creating opportunities for young golfers to compete and develop their expertise,” Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong shared.

Champion in the arms of parents

The Gala Night honoring the champions and golfers with high achievements took place at the Club House right after the end of the competition day. Guests and golfers enjoyed the vibrant dance "Ce soir" by Miss Golf 2022 Ngo Thanh Tu or immersed themselves in the song "Give me a chance" by Miss Vietnam 2022 runner-up Le Nguyen Ngoc Hang. Along with that, the main chapter "Lucky draw" with many attractive parts also helped golfers to be more entertained and relaxed after a day of dramatic competition.

At the Gala Night, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates of merit to the units, sponsors, and partners who have been with the tournament for the past seven years and to the participation of many new units. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee - journalist Le Xuan Son thanked the joint efforts from many sides as an important basis to ensure the conditions for organizing the tournament successfully over many seasons.
