Professor Nguyen Trung Viet becomes Principal of Thuyloi University

Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy has just signed a decision to recognize Professor Nguyen Trung Viet as Rector of Thuyloi University for the 2020-2025 term. The decision takes effect from May 1.

Professor Nguyen Trung Viet is the Vice Principal of the University of Water Resources. Professor Viet replaces his predecessor, Professor Trinh Minh Thu, who has been allowed to take administrative leave since May 1.

Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was born in 1974 and graduated from the University of Water Resources with a degree in hydraulic engineering. After completing his doctoral program at Tohoku University (Japan) in 2007, he returned to continue working at the University of Water Resources and was awarded the title of professor in 2018.

In addition to his managerial positions at the University of Water Resources, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet is known as a research expert in hydraulic engineering. He has been invited to present at many prestigious conferences around the world and has evaluated doctoral theses at several prestigious universities such as Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Curtin University (Australia), Aix-Marseille University and Toulouse University (France).

In 2014, he was also invited by the Japan Foundation for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to conduct research and collaborate at Tohoku University; was appointed as a member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Hydrological and Environmental Engineering Research, Asia-Pacific Region (IAHR-APD) and a member of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Association for Marine Engineering (APAC).

He and his research team have received many awards. Recently, in 2022, Professor Viet was awarded the Outstanding International Cooperation Award by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).

Currently, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet is the secretary of the state council of professors in the irrigation sector.

Notably, in 1996, while still a student at the University of Water Resources, Professor Nguyen Trung Viet was awarded the Thai Binh scholarship by Thanh Nien Newspaper thanks to his excellent academic achievements.
