Shining examples of veterans joining hands to build the homeland

Returning after the war, the soldiers of the past closed the glorious history, entering a new journey: continuing to contribute to their homeland, building a peaceful life. In Tay Ninh province, many war veterans are not only shining examples of determination to develop the economy, but also leading the movement of donating land to open roads, contributing to changing the face of the countryside.

Courage on the economic front

In 1976, after completing his military service and returning to his homeland, veteran Nguyen Duc Thanh continued his studies, making constant efforts to graduate from the Foreign Trade University in 1982. With his knowledge and military training, he quickly asserted his abilities and was entrusted with many important positions in the import-export company of Long An province. In 2001, he retired and established Tanimex Long An Company (Company) specializing in processing cashew nuts for export.

The company is one of the prestigious enterprises in the field of processing and exporting cashew nuts domestically, from 2011 to 2021. In particular, 2015 marked a major turning point when Tanimex Long An had an output reaching 1,000 billion VND in revenue, with an export turnover of 40 million USD, ranking 6th among 500 cashew nut exporting enterprises in Vietnam.

Having asserted himself on the economic front, becoming one of the pioneers in bringing Vietnamese cashew nuts to the world market, Mr. Thanh shared: “The spirit of a soldier is not afraid of difficulties or hardships. In the past, I went to the battlefield, now I am fighting on the economic front. I must set an example for my children and grandchildren, the younger generation to follow.”

In addition to running a business and creating stable jobs for hundreds of local workers, over the past 10 years, veteran Nguyen Duc Thanh has also made many contributions to the locality, actively participating in social activities and the "Comradely Love" program.

Moved when being presented with the "Comradely Love" house, veteran Ngo Van Dung (residing in Hau Thanh commune) shared: "I never thought that at this age, I would be able to live in such a solid and cozy house. For me, this is not only a place to live but also the love and care of the Association and comrades like Thanh."

Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Long An Ward, Tran Van Don, said: “Every year, comrade Thanh contributes more than one hundred million VND to build houses of solidarity, bridges, and rural roads, as well as to the provincial Association of War Veterans Entrepreneurs Fund, helping many comrades in difficult circumstances have capital to raise livestock, develop the economy and escape poverty. The bridges and houses that comrade Thanh supports are beautiful images, concretizing and spreading the spirit of "Comradeship" that our Association always respects and is proud of.”

Join hands to donate land to open roads

The spirit of dedication to the community is always in Mr. Huynh Van Tron - a veteran living in Thanh Loi commune. For him, "when the war is over, we will return to build peace", and donating land to open roads and contributing to the construction of new rural areas is the way he continues to serve his homeland.

Pioneering in donating land to build many local projects, most recently donating more than 200m² of land to expand the inter-hamlet road, is what veteran Huynh Van Tron has been doing for many years. From a small, narrow dirt road that was only wide enough for motorbikes to pass each other, now the inter-hamlet road 1 in Thanh Loi commune has been upgraded and expanded, helping people to travel more conveniently and safely.

Mr. Le Van Lap (residing in Thanh Loi commune) said: “Previously, this road was narrow and difficult to travel during the rainy season. Thanks to the land donation by veteran Huynh Van Tron, the road has been widened and vehicles can travel more conveniently. Everyone here thanks Uncle Tron very much.”

Not stopping there, veteran Huynh Van Tron was also willing to dismantle the fence to create a flat surface for the project, and mobilized 20 neighboring households to donate land and contribute labor days to build the road. “I always keep in mind that soldiers returning from war must not only maintain their moral character but also become a spiritual support for the people. In the past, when I went to war, I did not hesitate to sacrifice my life. Land is just material, as long as my children can go to school easily, and people can easily transport goods, I can consider it as a small contribution to my hometown,” Mr. Tron shared.

Chairman of the Thanh Loi Commune Veterans Association Huynh Khanh Du said: “More than anyone else, soldiers like comrade Huynh Van Tron understand the value of unity and community benefits, so they do not calculate the pros and cons. Thanks to that example, dozens of other households have followed suit, contributing to completing the road ahead of schedule.”

Stories of war veterans taking the lead in economic development and donating land for road construction are not only proof of their sense of responsibility but also vivid lessons about sacrifice and dedication. Returning from the battlefield, they continue to “fight” – this time on the front line of building their homeland./.
