Ha Giang: Strengthening management of vegetation clearing and forest fire prevention

In recent days, in Ha Giang province and some neighboring provinces, there have been many forest fires causing damage to both forests and human lives. Most of the forest fires were caused by subjective reasons of the people.

In particular, according to farming habits, households often clear and burn vegetation for agricultural cultivation or forest planting, and set fires to catch bees in the forest, causing the risk of fire spreading into the forest.

To minimize the risk of forest fires caused by human negligence, the Ha Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department requires forest rangers to advise local authorities to resolutely direct communes, wards and towns to propagate, remind and guide people to ensure conditions for forest fire prevention and fighting during cultivation and vegetation clearing.

During hot days, it is strictly forbidden to use illegal fire in or near the forest, process vegetation, burn slash-and-burn land for farming, light fires to catch bees, and organize spontaneous tourism in forest areas.

On March 22, authorities promptly extinguished a forest fire in Group 2, Ngoc Ha Ward, Ha Giang City.

Local forest rangers coordinate with local authorities to propagate and instruct people to raise awareness of forest fire prevention and control and safe use of fire. Before burning the vegetation, a firebreak must be made; combustible materials must be gathered in a safe location, away from the forest; burning must be against the wind and under control.

Organize forces to be on duty throughout the dry season, regularly monitor key areas with high risk of forest fires to closely inspect and control people entering the forest and have measures to control and guide the safe use of fire.
