Hanoi: Police officer continues to command fire fighting despite injury

In the warehouse and factory fire on Phuc Dien Street (Tay Mo Ward, Nam Tu Liem District) on the afternoon of May 13, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Le Cuong was assigned to lead the attack at the front of the factory. While advancing to command and direct the firefighting and rescue work, comrade Cuong was injured by a piece of glass broken by the high heat. However, he still tried to continue commanding the firefighting and rescue work until the fire was basically under control.

Currently, comrade Nguyen Le Cuong is being treated at the orthopedic trauma department, Hospital 198 ( Ministry of Public Security ) with a wound about 6cm long, losing a lot of blood, 6 stitches; comrade Cuong is conscious, stable health.

Previously, at nearly 5:00 p.m. on May 13, 2025, the Hanoi City Police Command Center received a fire alarm at a warehouse and factory located at 860 Phuc Dien Street. Immediately upon receiving the information, the City Police Command Information Center mobilized about 80 officers and soldiers of the fire prevention, firefighting and rescue police along with many specialized vehicles to the scene to organize firefighting and rescue.

Assessing the complicated fire situation, flammable materials, large and diverse loads, generating a lot of toxic smoke and gas, the fire spreading quickly and potentially spreading to neighboring warehouse areas, the Fire Commander directed the organization of reconnaissance, searching for surrounding water sources, deploying many firefighting and rescue teams, preventing the spread of fire, urgently controlling and extinguishing the fire as quickly as possible. At about 7:00 p.m., the fire was extinguished.
