
British magazine Time Out has just announced a list of the 15 most popular tourist cities in the world , in which Hanoi ranked 11th.
The list is based on an analysis of global travelers' search trends for flights, hotels and itineraries, conducted by travel insurance company InsureandGo.
The list of the world's 15 most popular cities for tourists shows a clear shift in global tourism trends. Tokyo tops the list, followed by Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Beijing (China) and Lucerne (Switzerland).
Hanoi is the only representative of Vietnam to appear, ranking 11th, above major destinations such as Jakarta (Indonesia), Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina).
Hanoi stands out thanks to the harmonious combination of ancient beauty and modern breath, fully preserving the nostalgic beauty of the old quarter, historical relics and architectural works, while embracing the constant development of a dynamic city.
According to a report by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in the first 5 months of the year, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 12.77 million, an increase of 10.9% over the same period in 2024.
Of which, international visitors reached 3.16 million, up 20.2% over the same period in 2024; domestic visitors reached 9.61 million, up 7.8% over the same period last year. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 51.94 trillion , up 14.1% over the same period in 2024.
The Department assessed that the number of international visitors to Hanoi has grown steadily, from key markets such as Japan, South Korea, China, France and the US.
The capital's tourism industry is preparing to enter an acceleration phase, prioritizing investment in developing cultural tourism products, orienting towards building agricultural and rural tourism models, as well as developing community tourism associated with ethnic minority identities.
In addition, Hanoi will develop strong product lines such as culinary tourism, MICE tourism, health care tourism, along with a series of new products such as adventure sports tourism, Red River tourism, virtual reality tourism and night experiences in Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho districts.
