Hanoi hit record heat, many places cut power on August 5

According to the power outage schedule announced by Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI), on August 5, some areas in communes and wards such as Kim Lien, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, Thanh Xuan, Khuong Dinh, Yen Nghia, Phu Luong, Kien Hung... are expected to have their power supply temporarily cut off for a certain period of time.

Many households are expected to lose power.

In the list, the establishments expected to have their power cut mainly include some households and businesses... Among them, some households in the city's central wards that will have their power cut include houses number 146 to number 202 on Khuong Thuong Street, alley 554 Truong Chinh (Kim Lien Ward), expected to have their power cut from 8am to 4pm.

Or in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward, houses number 2 to number 16, lane 222 Le Duan, house B5, lane 16/222 Le Duan are scheduled to have their power cut from 8am to 4pm. Part of Trung Van Cooperative in Dai Mo ward is also scheduled to have its power cut on August 5 from 6am to 10am.

Or part of Do Nghia urban area (Yen Nghia ward) is expected to have power outage from 8am to 12pm. In Kien Hung ward, TT 18, 19 of Van Phu new urban area is also expected to have power outage from 6am to 12pm.

For example, part of residential groups 6,7 in Phu Luong ward; part of residential groups 4,5 in Kien Hung ward planned to have power outages from 5am to 1pm but postponed. Part of Son Tay ward planned to have power outages from 6am to 1pm but also postponed.

Power transmission system under pressure due to increased load

Previously, at the peak time on the afternoon of August 4 (13:30-14:30), the maximum capacity of the national power system reached about 54,500MW, the highest level recorded since the beginning of the year and setting a new record, an increase of about 5,000MW (10%) compared to the same period in 2024. In the North alone, the maximum capacity reached about 28,500MW.

According to the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO), due to the impact of the widespread heat wave in the North during the period of August 1-4, the load in the North increased very high.

During the weekend, the maximum capacity of the Northern power system reached 25,761MW, 4,000-5,000MW higher (about 25%) than previous normal holidays, this difference is equivalent to 2 times the total capacity of Son La hydropower plant.

Prolonged heat has caused a sudden increase in electricity consumption, putting great pressure on the regulation and operation of the national power system.

In particular, some transmission lines and transformers at 220kV and 500kV transformer stations in high load concentration areas recorded high load, full or overload status.

For example, the 500kV line 572 Son La - 575 Viet Tri; the 220kV line 271 Thanh Cong - 271 Ha Dong; the 500kV transformer stations: Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Viet Tri, Tay Ha Noi, Pho Noi, Thuong Tin, Hiep Hoa, Dong Anh; the 220kV transformer stations: Mai Dong, Chem, Thanh Cong, Bac Ninh 2, Dong Hoa, Dong Anh, Ha Dong, Hiep Hoa, Tay Ha Noi, Pho Noi...

The incident on the 220kV Hoa Binh - Ha Dong line occurred on the afternoon of August 4, causing overloading of 500/220kV lines and transformers in the surrounding area. NSMO had to adjust the load in some areas to reduce the load on the overloaded lines and transformers to ensure safe operation of the system and avoid widespread incidents. By 3:00 p.m. the same day, all loads had been restored.
