(PLVN) - Speaking to the press at the opening ceremony of electric bus route No. 43 of VinBus Ecological Transport Services LLC on June 5, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said that the city is building a roadmap to convert all buses in particular and all vehicles in general to using green, clean energy.

In the context that the capital is facing traffic congestion and environmental pollution, especially air pollution, the conversion of vehicles from fossil fuels (gasoline, oil) to electricity and green energy will be a necessary step to build a green, clean and beautiful city.

To achieve the above goal, the city has recently specified the conversion roadmap by Plan 149 dated May 28 on implementing the Project to develop a public transport system using buses using electricity and green energy in the area. Accordingly, by 2030 at the latest, 100% of buses (nearly 2,500 vehicles) in the area will use electricity and green energy.

Assessing the above target as “very challenging”, Mr. Quyen said that with the support of enterprises such as VinBus, or previously the Hanoi Transport Corporation, the Electric Vehicle Joint Stock Company, many buses have switched from fossil fuels to electric. Up to now, the city has completed the target of increasing the proportion of buses using electric energy and green energy by 2026 (reaching 20 - 23%).

Along with the bus conversion, the City has assigned the Department of Construction to preside over dialogues with enterprises providing vehicles and services, and collect public opinions to advise on the development of a roadmap to convert all taxis, technology cars, and people's personal vehicles to use green and clean energy.

Currently, the city does not have a specific plan for this, but according to Mr. Quyen, the goal is to complete the conversion with buses by 2030, the next phase is to encourage people to switch to vehicles using green energy at the highest rate.

Answering questions about policies to support people in switching to green energy, Mr. Quyen said that the city has worked with businesses to have the best support policies such as registration fees, license plate installation fees, etc.

For businesses, Hanoi is studying to amend Resolution 07 dated July 10, 2019 of the City People's Council on prioritizing the development of a mass public passenger transport system. The city will study to specify mechanisms and policies to remove difficulties, support businesses in the process of investing, converting vehicles to use green energy, clean energy as well as investing in a complete and synchronous infrastructure system and charging stations to serve the people.
