Speaking to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Van Hong, Head of the Ha Long Tourist Ship Association, said that on March 7, the Ha Long Tourist Ship Association and ship owners had a meeting with representatives of Tuan Chau International Passenger Port and Ha Long International Passenger Port about the sudden and sharp increase in many services and fees of these two ports, including some services increasing by more than 30%, which will not only affect businesses, but also affect destinations.

According to the announcement of the management units of the two ports above, the passenger ticket to both ports has increased from the current 40,000 VND/person/trip to 60,000 VND/person/trip.
Depending on the type of ship, if it is a sightseeing ship with a contract to pick up and drop off passengers, the service fee to be paid/trip increases by about 50,000 VND.
A cruise ship owner said that according to the current contract with Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, the company's ships must pay a service fee to the port of VND100,000 per trip, but from April 1, they will have to pay VND150,000 per trip.
Along with that, security and public lighting fees increased from 150,000 VND to 200,000 VND/ship/month.
In particular, the boat mooring fee has increased from VND6,300/m2 of water surface/month to VND9,000/m2/month. For this service alone, with the announced increase, according to cruise ship owners, on average each boat has to pay an additional VND500,000 to over VND1 million/month.
According to the Ha Long Cruise Ship Association, with the new price list just announced by Tuan Chau International Passenger Port and Ha Long International Passenger Port, the total fees and services a ship will have to pay from April 1 will be several million VND/month higher than the current price.

According to Mr. Tran Van Hong, Head of the Ha Long Tourist Boat Association, the above burden will fall on the shoulders of businesses and boat owners, however, boat owners are not sure if they dare to increase ticket prices and tour prices for tourists because if they increase, it will be difficult to compete with other tourist destinations, especially in Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba ( Hai Phong City).
An upset ship owner said that Tuan Chau International Passenger Port and Ha Long International Passenger Port both issued documents announcing price increases at the end of February 2024 and applied them from April 1, while many international guests had signed tour contracts a year in advance, so the sudden adjustment would cause difficulties and losses for businesses.
"We usually sign package tour contracts with travel agencies from September every year. Just talking about the port ticket for tourists increasing from 40,000 VND/person to 60,000 VND/person, we had to compensate 20,000 VND/person, while we have signed contracts with thousands of customers" - this ship owner said.
The representative of the Ha Long Tourist Boat Association said that they will have a written proposal to the management representatives of the two ports, in which they will propose principles and roadmap for adjusting prices and port service fees in the spirit of companionship, sharing difficulties and benefits of all parties, ensuring fairness and customer acceptance.
