On the morning of October 22nd, the Provincial Association of Elderly People, in coordination with the Hai Duong Provincial Women's Union, organized an event to honor exemplary elderly people who have participated in building the grassroots political system and elderly women who have contributed to building cultured, prosperous, and happy families.
Provincial Party Committee members Nguyen Khac Toan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of the Provincial Committee for Elderly Affairs of Hai Duong province, attended the event.
Also attending were representatives from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly , and leaders from several provincial departments, agencies, and organizations.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung acknowledged and praised the achievements of the Association of Elderly People. In recent years, the protection, care, and promotion of the role of the elderly have received special attention. Elderly women in Hai Duong are not only guardians of cultural values and traditional customs, but also make significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the locality. The Women's Union at all levels has consistently focused on implementing the "5 Haves, 3 Cleanliness" family building campaign, linked to building cultured, prosperous, happy, progressive, and civilized families; actively encouraging and promoting the role of elderly women in the locality.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung requested that all levels, sectors, political and social organizations, and businesses continue to effectively protect, care for, and promote the role of the elderly. He urged continuous improvement in the quality of life and happiness index of the elderly, encouraging them to play a pioneering, exemplary role, and to utilize their wisdom, experience, and prestige in various aspects of social life; to strictly adhere to the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws; to educate and pass on to the younger generation the character, morality, and fine traditions of the nation; to actively apply their skills and experience to labor, production, and economic development; to be exemplary in building a united community, resolving conflicts at the grassroots level; and to pay attention to promoting education and talent development, building a learning society, and self-governance models.
Departments, agencies, and organizations regularly and effectively disseminate the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on the elderly, especially the national action program on the elderly for the period 2021-2030 and the implementation of policies for the elderly. They will continue to review and supplement the province's specific mechanisms and policies for the elderly, with particular priority given to elderly people in difficult and vulnerable circumstances, in accordance with the province's conditions.
Continue to prioritize poverty reduction for the elderly, improving housing conditions and access to basic services, especially healthcare, legal assistance, etc., for the elderly. Create conditions for the elderly to receive support and participate in cultural, sports, and tourism activities. Strengthen leadership and guidance, creating favorable conditions for the elderly to build increasingly strong and comprehensive Elderly Associations at all levels, develop membership, and improve the quality of activities so that the associations truly become a second home for the elderly.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Duong province awarded certificates of merit to 12 exemplary elderly people who participated in building the political system during the 2019-2024 period and 12 exemplary elderly women who contributed to building cultured, prosperous, and happy families. The Women's Union and the Association of the Elderly also awarded 71 exemplary elderly people who participated in the grassroots political system and exemplary elderly women.
Hai Duong currently has approximately 336,127 elderly people (accounting for about 17% of the population), including 188,231 women, and over 54,000 people aged 80 and above. More than 13,300 elderly people are participating in Party and government work, social management, and mass organization activities at all levels, especially at the grassroots; over 6,600 elderly people have received the title of "Excellent Economic Entrepreneur"; and over 2,400 elderly people are owners of farms, businesses, and production and trading establishments, creating jobs and income for thousands of local workers, contributing to the provincial budget, and actively participating in social welfare work.
