According to Yonhap news agency, South Korea will open 10 peace- themed trails near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the country and North Korea.
The South Korean government announced on April 30 that these trails will begin welcoming visitors from mid-May.
The trails are located along border towns and cities in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces as well as on the western border island of Gangwha, according to information from the South Korean defense and culture ministries.
The routes are expected to open from May 13. Visitors can register via the government website or via the Durunubi mobile app.
The DMZ is located more than 50km north of the capital Seoul. This area is about 250km long and 4km wide, established with the 1953 Armistice Agreement, dividing the Korean Peninsula in two.
This is one of the most heavily guarded border areas in the world and is also a popular tourist destination.
