Admiring the island shaped like a snake and visiting the snake couple are some suggestions for tourists when visiting South Korea in the Year of the Snake 2025.
World Cup Park, Seoul
Since 2018, World Cup Park in Seoul has maintained a tradition of creating large sculptures of the zodiac animals using silver grass. This year, the park displays a snake couple sculpture made from 4 tons of grass. The pair of snakes each measures 3.5 meters in length and 4 meters in width, along with four snake eggs that are 1 meter high and 1.5 meters long. The artwork symbolizes a year of harmony and togetherness.
Additionally, the park has a wishing tree where visitors can write their wishes and hang them up. During the Lunar New Year holiday, the park hosts traditional Korean games such as ring toss and "yut" (a traditional Korean board game).
Visitors do not need to make reservations in advance; the park is illuminated from 5 PM to 11 PM every day.
Cheongsapo Beach, Busan
Cheongsapo is located in the southeastern port city of Busan, famous for its lighthouses. The town's name originates from a local legend about a green snake.
Legend tells of a wife who daily climbed a pine tree in the village, waiting for her fisherman husband who had met with misfortune at sea. Moved by her unwavering loyalty, the Dragon King sent a green snake to guide her in finding her husband.
In Cheongsapo, visitors can enjoy a close-up view of the coastline from the Cheongsapo Bridge observation deck, which is shaped like a green snake.
Camellia flower path on Jangsa Island, Tongyeong
Jangsa Island in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, is shaped like a snake. In Chinese characters, the island's name means "long snake." Located within Hallyeo Haesang National Park, the island boasts over 100,000 camellia and white magnolia trees.
Jangsado Sea Park features a trail that winds along the hills, leading visitors west and east for panoramic views. Seen from above, the trail curves like a lying snake.
Visitors climbing to the summit will encounter a statue of a woman reclining and looking out at the sea. From here, visitors can admire the group of nearby islands such as Sodeok, Daedeok, Maemul, Somaemul, Gayak, Guk, and Soji.
Baemsagol Valley, Namwon
Baemsagol Valley, located at the foot of Mount Jiri in Namwon, North Jeolla Province, is a popular and ideal destination for visiting during the Lunar New Year of the Snake. The valley is wide and deep, stretching over 9 kilometers. Viewed from above, it resembles a large snake slithering out of the mountain, with winding paths like many smaller snakes.
Stretching from Banyabong Peak to Tokkibong Peak, the valley is renowned for its seasonal beauty. The hills are ablaze with color in autumn, while in spring, the valley is covered in rhododendron blossoms.
The valley also boasts over 100 large waterfalls and streams, along with wide, rocky areas suitable for camping. Locals typically visit most frequently during the summer months for relaxation.
