Admiring the snake-shaped island and visiting the snake couple are suggestions for tourists when coming to Korea in the year of the Snake 2025.
World Cup Park, Seoul
Since 2018, the World Cup Park in Seoul has maintained the tradition of creating large sculptures of the zodiac animal using silver grass. This year, the park features a snake couple made from 4 tons of grass. The snakes are each 3.5 meters in size and 4 meters long, along with four snake eggs measuring 1 meter high and 1.5 meters long. The work symbolizes a year of harmony and reunion.
Additionally, the park has a wishing tree where visitors can write their wishes and hang them up. During the Lunar New Year holiday, the park hosts traditional Korean games such as ring tossing and playing “yut” (traditional Korean chess).
Visitors do not need to make reservations in advance, the park is lit from 5pm to 11pm every day.
Cheongsapo Beach, Busan
Cheongsapo is a southeastern port city in Busan, famous for its lighthouses. The town's name comes from a legend of a green snake passed down by local people.
Legend has it that every day a wife climbed a pine tree in the village to wait for her fisherman husband who had met with an accident at sea. The Dragon King was moved by the wife's loyalty and sent a green snake to guide her to find her husband.
Coming to Cheongsapo, visitors can get a close-up view of the coastline from the Cheongsapo Bridge Observatory - shaped like a green snake.
Jangsa Island Camellia Road, Tongyeong
Jangsa Island in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, is shaped like a snake. The island's name means "long snake" in Chinese characters. Located in the Hallyeo Haesang National Park, the island is home to more than 100,000 camellia and white magnolia trees.
Jangsado Sea Park has a trail that follows the hills, leading visitors west and east for panoramic views. From above, the path curls up like a snake lying down.
Visitors who climb to the top of the mountain will encounter a statue of a woman lying on her side looking out to sea. Here, visitors will admire the group of neighboring islands such as Sodeok, Daedeok, Maemul, Somaemul, Gayak, Guk and Soji.
Baemsagol Valley, Namwon
Baemsagol Valley, located at the foot of Jiri Mountain in Namwon, North Jeolla Province, is a popular destination for the Lunar New Year. The valley is wide and deep, stretching over 9 kilometers. Seen from above, it looks like a large snake crawling out of the mountain, with twisting turns like many small snakes.
Stretching from Banyabong Peak to Tokkibong Peak, the valley is famous for its seasonal beauty. The hills are colorful in autumn, and rhododendrons cover the valley in spring.
The valley also has more than 100 large waterfalls and small streams along with large boulders, suitable for camping. People often come here most in the summer for vacation.
