Earlier, in the early morning of the same day, Ms. Ho Thi Xa (35 years old), in Cat village, Huong Phung commune, went into labor but the road to the village was cut off by floodwaters, many sections were damaged and broken, forcing her to cross a deep stream to get to the hospital.
Upon receiving the news, at around 3am, Mr. Ho Van Tinh, Chief of Cat village, immediately mobilized the youth in the village to support Ms. Xa’s family. Soon after, 23 young men and 2 women showed up with a cart, motorbike and a hammock to take Ms. Xa across the stream to Highway 9 to the hospital.

“The distance from the village to Highway 9 is about 20 km, but because the road is damaged, we only drove the first 5 km, the rest had to be walked. We had to take turns carrying hammocks, crossing small streams and two points where floodwaters were flowing rapidly. It took us nearly 4 hours to get to Highway 9,” said Mr. Ho Van Tinh.
At around 7am this morning, the locals were able to take the pregnant woman to the location where the ambulance of the Huong Hoa Regional Medical Center was waiting. After being put in the ambulance, Ms. Xa was assisted in giving birth right in the vehicle.

Secretary of the Party Committee of Huong Phung Commune, Ho Van Vinh, added that as soon as the information was received, the commune contacted the hospital to send an ambulance and mobilized forces in the village to support. Cat and Tria villages are two disadvantaged villages in the commune. The road leading to the village was severely damaged by previous floods and has not yet been repaired, so whenever people in the village have an accident or get sick, they have to travel with great difficulty. We have requested financial support to urgently repair this road, but it has not been arranged yet.
