Hackers can exploit the above security vulnerability to attack and steal sensitive data as well as maintain access even when users reinstall the operating system on the device.
The vulnerability affects laptop models popular in the cybersecurity industry and government agencies, according to Philippe Laulheret, senior vulnerability researcher at Cisco Talos.
The researchers said there was no indication that the vulnerabilities were being exploited in the wild. Dell also released security patches for its devices in March, April, and May, with the most recent advisory dated June 13.
A Dell spokesman said the company had addressed the issues “quickly and transparently.”
“As always, it is important that customers promptly apply the security updates we provide and move to supported versions to ensure their systems remain secure,” the spokesperson said.
