Powerful digital transformation

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Do Hong Cam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, affirmed that digital transformation fundamentally changes all business operations and transforms the way people live and work.

In line with the national digital transformation goals, the Ministry of Transport has issued a digital transformation program until 2025, with a vision to 2030.

With Vietnam's aviation industry integrated with the international aviation system, the task of digital transformation across the entire industry has been strongly implemented, achieving practical results and strengthening aviation security and safety.

Mr. Do Hong Cam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, delivered a speech at the workshop.

"The key issue now is the use of shared digital platforms, which will help organizations and businesses become more streamlined and intelligent, make the cost of their products and services more competitive, improve the efficiency of state operations, and increase business profits," Mr. Cam said.

According to the leaders of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, several agencies and businesses in the Vietnamese aviation industry are currently using shared platforms, such as Vietnam Airlines, which utilizes GPS and AITS digital platforms, and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), which also uses shared digital platforms to improve the efficiency of flight safety assurance.

ACV has deployed a shared digital platform at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai International Airports. The application of this digital platform has helped reduce aircraft taxiing time, contributing to reduced CO2 emissions and the development of smart, modern airports.

According to IATA forecasts, passenger growth in the aviation industry is expected to double by 2041. Building and operating larger airports is becoming increasingly difficult, making the use of a shared digital platform crucial. This will enable airports and government agencies to operate more flexibly and efficiently in response to new developments.

Mr. Do Hong Cam emphasized that the Vietnamese aviation industry will strengthen its digital transformation, and in this process, it needs the cooperation and assistance of national organizations in terms of experience, personnel, resources, and relevant information.

"The presence of IATA is a testament to the active, effective, and sustained support and assistance from countries and international organizations for the safe and sustainable development of Vietnamese aviation over the years," Mr. Cam shared.

Vinoop Goel, Director of Airports and External Relations at IATA in the Asia- Pacific region, assessed that many airports and aviation infrastructure are currently overloaded. To meet the increasing passenger traffic over the next 20 years, the global aviation industry needs to do much more, including promoting digital technology.

Overview of the "One ID" conference.

"Currently, many processes such as check-in and boarding still rely on technologies that have been around for a long time and use a lot of paper. These are outdated technologies in the current context and are something we must address," Vinoop Goel stated.

Meanwhile, Shu Hui Bian, Director of Passenger Experience, Safety and Security Operations Division of IATA Asia Pacific, introduced One ID as a digital technology to help passengers have paperless journeys. Documents will be checked before the trip begins based on digital identification methods.

Customers will obtain the necessary permits from their destination to meet onboard procedural requirements. The information will be checked in advance and remotely so that passengers arrive at the airport ready to fly.

One ID is an advanced model that enhances the passenger experience and optimizes airport check-in processes, bringing many benefits to passengers and stakeholders in the aviation industry. It allows passengers to check in contactlessly, through biometrics, and proceed to all contact points at the airport without having to declare information.

"With digital identification, the quality of customer data submitted to airlines will be more accurate, increasing process efficiency, reducing congestion, enhancing passenger satisfaction, and boosting revenue for the aviation industry while maintaining the security of personal information," said Ms. Shu Hui Bian.

As the managing entity operating 22 airports nationwide, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is undertaking a strong digital transformation roadmap, enhancing the application of modern technology in its flight and passenger service chain.

Sharing information about the ACV-ID solution already implemented at several airports, an ACV representative stated that the company has pioneered the testing of the full-time biometric authentication solution for passengers (ACV ID) at Phu Bai Airport (Thua Thien Hue province) and Dien Bien Airport (Dien Bien province).

This solution, developed by ACV in collaboration with the RAR Center - the Center for Research and Application of Population and Identity Data under the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order - C06, Ministry of Public Security, provides a completely new experience with pre-flight procedures.

This solution allows the use of the national population database in the information verification process using biometric and image recognition technology, and enables accurate information assessment.

Thanks to this, ACV ID enables the automation of all security check procedures, while accurately matching passenger information and identification documents with information in the national population data center.

ACV representatives affirmed that they will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to prepare the steps according to the roadmap, accelerate the digitalization process, and enhance the optimal experience for passengers at airports under their management. They also affirmed Vietnam's efforts on the regional and global levels.
