New US tariff barriers: Opportunities and challenges for Dong Thap export enterprises

DTO - On the morning of May 27, the Department of Industry and Trade of Dong Thap province coordinated with the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Mekong Delta branch , to organize a workshop on "New US tariff barriers - Opportunities and challenges for Dong Thap export enterprises".

The workshop was attended by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong Linh - Deputy Director of VCCI, Mekong Delta Branch, leaders of provincial departments and branches, representatives of Business Associations and nearly 100 enterprises in the province.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Luan - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade emphasized that the workshop aimed to provide Dong Thap enterprises with an in-depth view of the international trade context, especially changes from the US market. This is a necessary preparation step for enterprises to turn challenges into opportunities, towards sustainable development in the global supply chain.

At the workshop, experts analyzed in depth the impact of US tariffs and the impact of the US-China trade war on Vietnamese enterprises and the Mekong Delta economy . Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong Linh - Deputy Director of VCCI, Mekong Delta Branch said that the application of reciprocal taxes and uncertainty in US tariff policies will cause difficulties in export orders, affecting the financial situation and access to bank capital of enterprises. This requires enterprises to proactively update information and adjust business strategies to adapt.

Despite facing many challenges, the workshop also pointed out opportunities for Dong Thap enterprises. Experts recommended that enterprises need to diversify products, increase added value and build sustainable brands to penetrate deeper into the US market. Proactively grasping information, thoroughly understanding regulations and investing in modern production technology are key factors to meet strict standards.


The workshop attracted the participation of nearly 100 businesses in the province.

In addition, experts also recommend that provincial enterprises pay more attention to the domestic market, dialogue with state agencies to propose appropriate support solutions and invest in advanced technology and digitalization in production and business. For provincial authorities, experts said that it is necessary to take advantage of government policies, upgrade logistics infrastructure, take advantage of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), facilitate administrative procedures, organize trade promotion and diversify markets for enterprises...
