The 20-year meaningful journey of the Golden Globe Science and Technology Awards

On the afternoon of October 26 in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union held a seminar on “The 20-year journey of the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award”. Attending the seminar were Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association Nguyen Minh Triet, 60 individuals who received the award and female students of Vietnam Science and Technology.

In his opening speech, Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association Nguyen Minh Triet said that the past 20 years have been a meaningful journey. The Golden Globe Science and Technology Award has honored the most outstanding young talents in the Vietnamese young science and technology community. The research projects, products, solutions and science and technology services of the "Golden Globe" generations have made important contributions to solving domestic and global challenges in developing information technology infrastructure, environmental protection, climate change response, healthcare, energy, new materials and many other fields. We are proud that young Vietnamese people have accomplished many groundbreaking research projects and ideas that have been turned into reality in the technology fields that the award considers. The young "Golden Globe" talented generations have proven that there is no limit to the potential of the young Vietnamese generation in science and technology and affirmed their own contributions as important scientific and technological human resources of the country.

Many of them have grown up and been assigned important management positions in ministries, localities, and technology enterprises such as: Associate Professor, Dr. Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Dr. Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of Hanoi National University; Dr. Nguyen Truong Thang, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology...

At the seminar, the "Golden Globe" generations shared their thoughts and contributed to the award continuing to affirm its prestige and being the target of young people in the Vietnamese science and technology community.

Dr. Tran Quang Tuan (Deputy Director of the Department of Atomic Energy, Ministry of Science and Technology), a young talent who received the award in 2008, affirmed that this is a prestigious award among Vietnamese youth with 204 individuals honored. The individuals who won the award have all been successful in their positions, creating a widespread influence for the award. However, over the past 20 years, although the award has had many innovations and expanded its scope, we still have quite a few leading scientists and chief engineers.

The Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology need to coordinate to legalize the use and promotion of young scientists who have won the Golden Globe Award; have more comprehensive and complete mechanisms and policies and grasp the thoughts and aspirations of scientists, especially talented scientists under 35 years old, to promptly support in training, fostering, and creating a nurturing environment so that these individuals can become leading scientists and chief engineers in the future - said Dr. Tran Quang Tuan.

Dr. Do Xuan Hai (Military Medical Academy), a young talent who received the 2012 award, said that the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award is prestigious in the scientific community both domestically and internationally, and has great appeal and influence on young people who are passionate about science, technology and innovation. Therefore, it is necessary to further spread the award, the image of each individual winner and gain support from leaders at all levels for the youth movement of scientific research and innovation. Along with that, it is necessary to simplify procedures, apply technology in evaluating scientific works, especially typical scientific results and orientations related to people's practical lives. There is a good financial mechanism, increasing social resources for the award and after receiving the award with idea banks, venture capital for science, technology and innovation in the direction of specific practical products./.
