In last year's VBA Finals, Hanoi Buffaloes lost 0-3 to Saigon Heat. Therefore, they are eager to change the color of their medal in the 2023 VBA season, focusing heavily on investing in their roster. Notably, they have recruited former "scoring king" Anthony January.
"Scoring machine" Anthony January returns to the VBA in the Hanoi Buffaloes' jersey.
Four years ago, in the 2019 VBA group stage, the 1993-born star led in scoring, averaging 27.3 points per game. In addition, with his 2.05m height and 100kg weight, the American foreign player was also a nightmare in the paint, leading in fouls with an average of 6.3 fouls per game.

Not only did Hanoi Buffaloes bring in one of the best scorers in VBA history, but they also built a strong support system around him. These include foreign player Russell Smith (1.98 m tall), domestic player Pham Duc Kien (1.98 m tall), and rookie Dinh Toan Quoc (1.95 m tall). If this "quartet" plays together, the team nicknamed "Capital Buffaloes" will have four "giants" with heights of around 2 meters on the court. Besides the new players, the team also has a new head coach, Erik Rashad, a specialist from the US with over 20 years of experience.

Dinh Thanh Tam, captain of the Vietnamese basketball team at the recent SEA Games 32, will also continue his association with Hanoi Buffaloes. The combination of the VBA's all-time leading scorer, Anthony January, along with a core group of experienced players who have been with the team for many years, including Nguyen Tien Duong, Dinh Tien Cong, Nguyen Duong Quang Anh, etc., promises to help the reigning runner-up remain a strong contender for the championship in the 8th season of the VBA.
VBA 2023 kicks off on June 10th.
The first game of the 2023 VBA season will take place at 7:30 PM on June 10th, a rematch of the 2022 VBA Finals between Hanoi Buffaloes and Saigon Heat. This year, the tournament will be held in two phases: a centralized competition at the Cau Giay Gymnasium in Hanoi from June 10th to September 3rd, and a return to the home-and-away format as in last year, from September 7th to September 30th. All 2023 VBA matches will be broadcast live on ON Sports News, ON Sports Action, the ON Plus app, and VTVcab.
