Good deeds spread in Vietnam professional basketball tournament

In 2019, the Saigon Heat club successfully organized the first "Teddy Bear Toss" event. Specifically, during halftime of their home games, thousands of teddy bears, prepared by the fans, were thrown onto the court. These teddy bears were then donated as gifts to Saigon Children's Charity, a charity for children in Ho Chi Minh City. To date, "Teddy Bear Toss" has become an annual event in the Vietnamese professional basketball league, bringing warm joy to children every Mid-Autumn Festival.

Also during the 2019 VBA season, in response to the plight of young player Nguyen Thanh Tung battling bone cancer, the VBA and Cantho Catfish Club decided to raise funds through successful three-point shots from players during games. Furthermore, Thanh Tung was given a unique experience with a "one-day" contract as a player. Under this agreement, the determined young man was able to play alongside and give his all as a reserve player for Cantho Catfish in Game 2 of the 2019 VBA Finals.

At the 2023 VBA season, the Nha Trang Dolphins also implemented a project to raise funds for scholarships for children at the SOS Children's Village in Nha Trang through successful three-point shots in two home games. Last year, the club also organized a birthday celebration and provided temporary work for Nguyen Hoang Nhut - a young basketball enthusiast who is deaf and mute from birth and comes from a disadvantaged family.

Since its inception, all VBA clubs have sought opportunities to visit, interact with, and donate meaningful gifts such as basketball hoops and scholarships to local schools in their respective areas. On November 19th at the Ho Xuan Huong Gymnasium (Ho Chi Minh City), the VBA, in collaboration with Fabo Nguyen, will organize an All-Stars Ball Out to raise funds for charity. The event will feature 20 guests, including professional athletes, singers, and actors. Notable participants in this charity fundraising match include the 2023 VBA Player of the Year, Kentrell Barkley; former captain of the Vietnamese national basketball team, Justin Young; guard Tran Dang Khoa; and rising star Caleb Nguyen.
