In approving the Can Tho City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Prime Minister identified the development of human resources for the city's healthcare facilities as focusing on improving the system's capacity, service quality, specialization, and expertise. The Can Tho healthcare sector is oriented towards developing into a healthcare center for the Mekong Delta region. Can Tho is actively attracting socialized investment to form a high-quality private healthcare system, serving the medical examination and treatment needs of the city's residents, the Mekong Delta region, and internationally.

The first hospital to achieve AACI accreditation.

On the afternoon of December 15th, Mr. Le Nam Gioi, former Central Committee member and former Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee; Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City; Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City; Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, City Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City; Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Loan, City Party Committee member and Principal of the Political School of Can Tho City; Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Bach, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Can Tho City; Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen, Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City; and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Viet Nga, Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Can Tho City. Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nam Can Tho University, Chairman of Nam Can Tho University Hospital Company… along with many domestic and international delegates attended the ceremony announcing that Nam Can Tho University Hospital had achieved international accreditation according to US standards (American Accreditation Commission International - AACI).

The University Hospital of Southern Can Tho (QL1, Cai Rang Ward, Can Tho City) has a capacity of 300 beds, 29 departments and functional units, separate specialized centers, spacious facilities, and modern equipment.

Associate Professor, Doctor Dam Van Cuong, Director of Nam Can Tho University Hospital, announced that on November 9, 2025, Nam Can Tho University Hospital officially received AACI certification based on rigorous evaluation criteria for patient safety, service quality, and treatment effectiveness. AACI certification is a significant milestone, affirming Nam Can Tho University Hospital's efforts in building an internationally standardized model, always putting the patient at the center. Nam Can Tho University Hospital currently strongly applies information technology in management and patient care, providing a convenient, fast, and friendly experience.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep emphasized that AACI certification is one of the world's leading accreditation systems with extremely stringent requirements. Becoming the first medical facility in the Mekong Delta region to achieve AACI certification affirms that Nam Can Tho University Hospital meets the rigorous requirements for patient safety, professional quality, and management capacity according to international standards, helping to enhance its reputation, position, and integration capabilities. The leaders of Can Tho City commended the efforts and dedication of Nam Can Tho University Hospital in achieving AACI certification. On December 12th, Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital (located at 20 Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Hung Phu Ward, Can Tho City) and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy signed a cooperation agreement on training and scientific research for the period 2025-2030. According to the plan, on December 21st, Hoa Hao - Medic Can Tho General Hospital will inaugurate the Hoa Hao Long My Multi-Specialty Clinic, located in Long My Ward, Can Tho City. The spacious and modern Hoa Hao Long My Multi-Specialty Clinic has a floor area of ​​over 2,500 , a 5-story building, and a total investment of over 129 billion VND. On the morning of December 15th, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, chaired a meeting with contractors constructing the Can Tho Cancer Hospital to expedite the restart of this project, which has an investment capital of over 2,071 billion VND. The Can Tho Cancer Hospital project, with a capacity of 500 beds upon completion, will be a high-quality, specialized medical facility for patients in the Mekong Delta region.

According to Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, the city is making every effort to bring the Can Tho Oncology Hospital project to completion as soon as possible. By 2026, the city aims to achieve 15.66 doctors per 10,000 people; 43.92 hospital beds per 10,000 people; a universal health insurance coverage rate of 95.4%; and a 100% rate of people receiving free periodic health check-ups or screenings at least once a year. "By mid-December 2025, the system of specialized hospitals, general hospitals, medical centers, and health stations in Can Tho will have been upgraded; the quality of human resources will continue to improve; new and advanced techniques will be effectively applied in examination, diagnosis, and treatment; and the socialization of healthcare will become increasingly diverse. Private healthcare will continue to develop, better meeting the needs of healthcare and improving the health of the people of Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region…", Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen stated.
