Revealing the "huge" prize of the buffalo fighting festival in Hai Phong

At the meeting, Mr. Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of Do Son District People's Committee, said: The 2024 Do Son traditional buffalo fighting festival has the participation of 16 buffaloes, basically the buffaloes are similar in shape, there is not much difference.

Regarding the prizes, this year's festival still retains the same prize value as the 2023 festival. Accordingly, the buffalo owner with the champion buffalo will receive 100 million VND, 1 second prize worth 60 million VND and 2 third prizes each worth 30 million VND.

The 2024 Do Son buffalo fighting festival includes two parts: the ceremony and the festival, including the incense offering and flag raising ceremony on the 1st day of the 8th lunar month at Nghe Temple and Nam Hai Than Vuong Temple; the procession ceremony on the 7th day of the 8th lunar month; the sacrifice ceremony of the champion buffalo at the stadium and the worship ceremony at the communal houses of the wards with the winning buffalo on the 10th day of the 8th lunar month.

Notably, in 2024, Do Son district will organize activities to celebrate 35 years of restoring and developing the festival with 4 contents: a scientific seminar with the theme "solutions to preserve and promote the value of Do Son buffalo fighting festival - National intangible cultural heritage" taking place on the morning of August 20; an art program to celebrate 35 years of restoring and developing the festival; mobile propaganda and display of photos and artifacts associated with 35 years of restoring and developing the festival and commending and praising collectives and individuals with achievements over 35 years of restoring and developing the festival...
