According to RT, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on June 1, in which the two sides discussed upcoming talks between Moscow and Kiev in Istanbul (Turkey) as well as recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry , Secretary of State Rubio expressed his sincere condolences after two bridges collapsed, causing more than 80 casualties in Russia's Bryansk and Kursk regions on May 31 and June 1. On the same day, drones targeted military airfields in the Murmansk region in northern Russia, the Ryazan and Oblast regions in the west, the Irkutsk region in Siberia and the Amur region in the Far East.
Foreign Minister Lavrov said the attacks would be thoroughly investigated and the results would be announced soon.
"Those responsible will face appropriate punishment," the Russian foreign minister said.
The top Russian and US diplomats also exchanged views on a number of initiatives related to a political solution to the Ukraine crisis, including talks between Russia and Ukraine scheduled to take place in Istanbul on June 2.
US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said Secretary Rubio reiterated President Trump's call for continued direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to achieve lasting peace.
