If in the past, Binh Lieu vermicelli was only familiar within the local area, thanks to participating in the OCOP Program, this product has been present in almost all major supermarkets in the country, even initially exported to China. In May 2025, Binh Lieu vermicelli product of Binh Lieu Trading and Service Joint Stock Company was ranked 5 stars nationally.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, Deputy Director of the Company, said: The turning point leading to this result was in 2017, after the collective trademark "Binh Lieu vermicelli" was registered for protection, the company boldly registered to participate in the OCOP program and achieved 4 stars the first time. The company's vermicelli products received more attention from authorities at all levels, were supported to participate in trade promotion programs, and accessed public investment support. This was like a push to help the business grow strongly and have a stable output. The company has also linked with more than 500 households in the area, built a 60-hectare raw material area, and was granted a growing area code.
In addition to building a brand for typical agricultural products, the OCOP program has also become a driving force for farmers to boldly change their thinking, shifting from small-scale production to commodity production. Thousands of households have risen thanks to OCOP. In Ba Che and Ky Thuong communes, the birth of the OCOP product of yellow flower tea has opened up a new direction. Initially, only a few households grew it spontaneously, the product was mainly for family use and small-scale trading. With the support of the province, the participation of enterprises and cooperatives, up to now, Ba Che yellow flower tea has become a "rich tree", bringing in an income of hundreds of millions of VND/ha per year. Many households that were previously poor have now escaped poverty, even become well-off thanks to this specialty plant.
As the household with the largest area of yellow camellia cultivation in the region, Mr. Dam Van Cuong's family in Khe Long Ngoai village (Ba Che commune) has 2.5 hectares of yellow camellia cultivation. Mr. Cuong said that, realizing the great value of this medicinal plant, especially when yellow camellia participated in the OCOP program and was ranked, his family boldly switched to growing yellow camellia, with an annual revenue of about 500-700 million VND.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, as of June 30, the whole province has developed 432 OCOP products of 3 stars or higher, including 8 national 5-star OCOP products. The program has created jobs for tens of thousands of rural workers, raising the average income of people in this area to a fairly good level compared to the whole country. Thereby, it has actively contributed to the goal of building a model new rural area and promoting the urbanization process in a civilized and modern direction. More importantly, through the OCOP program, it has also aroused pride in the homeland, fostered aspirations to rise in the community, and created motivation for a harmonious and prosperous society.
Identifying OCOP as a driving force for rural economic development, in recent years, Quang Ninh province has focused on promoting propaganda to raise awareness of economic organizations, management agencies and people about the OCOP program. At the same time, it focuses on organizing production associated with planning raw material areas, developing OCOP products based on natural advantages, culture and local production practices associated with the province's key agricultural products. At the same time, it promotes the application of science and technology in production from product traceability management to production, processing and preservation to support the development of quality OCOP products. The province also pays attention to organizing fairs, exhibitions, promoting and introducing OCOP products on e-commerce platforms, participating in online platforms, spreading products to domestic and international customers.
Mr. Vu Duy Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Continuing to consider the OCOP Program as a driving force for rural economic development, in the coming period, Quang Ninh will focus on improving the quality of the program. In particular, the focus is on applying science and technology, innovating production processes associated with digital economy, circular economy and green agriculture, thereby helping to increase productivity, reduce costs, and create a foundation for brand building. At the same time, organizing solutions to expand trade promotion, diversify distribution channels as well as improve production, management and marketing capacity for OCOP entities.
