Efficiency from the "4-house" linkage in production

Việt NamViệt Nam25/08/2024

To develop sustainable commodity value chains, Long My district pays great attention to the “4-house” linkage to contribute to stabilizing market supply and demand. In which, cooperatives are one of the links that play an important connecting role.

The linkage chain following the model of State - Scientists - Enterprises - Farmers deployed in Long My district contributes to stabilizing market supply and demand.

In Long My district, the chain linkage model of State - Scientists - Enterprises - Farmers has been widely implemented in localities. Chain linkage projects to develop production, processing and consumption of products with the participation of many enterprises and cooperatives have gradually improved the management system, enhanced production quality, innovated in product design and proactively sought out consumption markets.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thuan Loi Agricultural Cooperative, Thuan Hung Commune, Long My District, said: The Cooperative has always received favorable policies from the State and local authorities such as capital support and production techniques for members. To ensure production, the Cooperative has also closely connected with the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and related units to receive guidance and support in applying irrigation techniques, using fertilizers and preventing pests and diseases appropriately. In addition, the Cooperative also cooperates with companies and businesses to purchase rice for members, ensuring output.

Since its establishment, Thuan Loi Agricultural Cooperative has always been interested in developing the rice production areas of its members, while strengthening links with outside households to expand the scale of cultivation and create a large enough rice output to meet the needs of businesses. Up to now, the Cooperative has 122 members, with a total rice cultivation area of 490 hectares. In addition, the Cooperative also provides many other services such as: pumping water, supplying rice seeds and fertilizers at the best prices for members, spraying pesticides with drones, performing plowing and tilling services at the beginning of the season, etc.

It is known that Thuan Loi Agricultural Cooperative is a cooperative participating in the province's Sustainable Agricultural Transformation Project (VnSAT) and is one of four cooperatives in the district selected to participate in the Project "Sustainable agricultural development, adaptation to climate change in Hau Giang province for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030". Participating in the VnSAT Project, cooperative members have been trained in many training courses on rice production processes according to advanced techniques "3 reductions, 3 increases" and "1 must, 5 reductions". Thereby, improving the level of rice cultivation, helping to reduce costs, improve rice quality and increase economic efficiency.

Identifying the development of collective economy and cooperatives as important conditions and bridges to promote the linkage of “4 houses”, thereby forming and developing value chains in agricultural production. Therefore, Long My district regularly directs, guides and recommends localities to focus on supporting the development of cooperatives, cooperative groups and farms, creating the most favorable conditions for cooperatives to participate in production linkage projects according to the value chain model.

Mr. Tran Van Luc, Plant Protection Officer of Thuan Hung Commune, Long My District, said: The experience to effectively connect cooperatives, enterprises, the State, and scientists in the commune is that right from the organization of technical support for production for cooperative members, people must be implemented in a systematic manner to have superior quality agricultural products..., thereby creating a premise to connect with enterprises and promote agricultural policies of the State and district into practice.

On the other hand, cooperatives and cooperative groups also actively encourage farmers to participate in the chain of linkages and consumption of agricultural products with distribution enterprises. Cooperatives also proactively propose difficulties and obstacles in production and business to departments, branches and enterprises to help people and members improve productivity and ensure profits. Mr. Huynh Duy Khan, a member of Thuan Loi Agricultural Cooperative, said: “To attract more and more members to the cooperative, we must make people see the practical benefits of joining the cooperative. For example, before I joined, the cost of irrigation and fertilizer for each rice crop was usually about 2.2 million VND/cong. Now that I have joined the cooperative, the cost has been reduced to about 1.7 million VND/cong. In addition, when we join the cooperative, we are also transferred scientific and technical advances in rice cultivation to reduce investment costs and increase profits; at the same time, the cooperative is linked with enterprises to supply input materials at better prices than outside and is guaranteed output products.”

In fact, the “4-house” chain not only helps increase economic value by 18-20%, but also contributes to raising income for members and people. On the other hand, consumers also benefit from using agricultural products with clear origin and source, ensuring quality and safety...
