With stable performance in the Hanoi Police Club (CAHN Club), defender Cao Pendant Quang Vinh was named by coach Kim Sang-sik in the Vietnam national team list for the training session at the end of May.

This is a training session to prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, with a match against Malaysia at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10.

Cao Pendant Quang Vinh promises to bring quality reinforcements to the Vietnamese team. The defender born in 1997 played for France U.16 and U.18, played for 8 years in France for Sochaux (youth team and first team) and Quevilly. He also played for New York Red Bulls (USA) for 2 years. Quang Vinh was the captain of France U.16 and Sochaux.

Quang Vinh returned to Vietnam to compete in July 2024. The 28-year-old player immediately took a place in the CAHN club squad, with 31 matches in all competitions since the beginning of the tournament. Quang Vinh scored 2 goals in this tournament, including a goal against Buriram United in the final of the Southeast Asian Cup C1 which took place last night (May 21).

Quang Vinh's performance has convinced coach Kim Sang-sik. The Korean coach helped Quang Vinh get his first call-up to the Vietnam national team. He became the second overseas Vietnamese player in the past two years to wear the national team jersey, alongside his teammate Nguyen Filip in the CAHN club jersey.

"Being called up to the Vietnam national team, I will try my best and devote everything to the national flag. The immediate goal is to help the team pass the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. After that, it will be the 2030 World Cup qualifiers," Cao Pendant Quang Vinh shared his feelings with Thanh Nien Newspaper.

"My mother was very happy when I became a Vietnamese citizen. As for my father, he said that if I was called up to the Vietnamese national team, I would have to do my best, show the proud image of the Vietnamese people and bring happiness to the fans."

Many familiar faces

Coach Kim Sang-sik summoned many key players to the Vietnam national team for this training session, spread evenly from defense to offense. There were not many new discoveries.

The Korean coach wants to prioritize safety, taking advantage of the experience of veterans to "decode" Malaysia, in the turning point match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Goalkeeper Nguyen Filip, Dinh Trieu, Trung Kien, defenders Duy Manh, Thanh Chung, Tien Dung, Viet Anh, Van Thanh, Xuan Manh, Van Vi, Thanh Binh, Tien Anh, midfielders Minh Khoa, Quang Hai, Van Khang, Duc Chien, Ngoc Quang, Hai Long, Hoang Duc, and the strikers Cong Phuong, Tuan Hai, Tien Linh, Thanh Binh... will form the framework for the Vietnamese team in this training session.

The Vietnamese team will gather next week to practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, before leaving for Malaysia to play the second round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

After the opening round, Vietnam leads the group thanks to a 5-0 win over Laos. Malaysia also has 3 points, but is in second place due to a lower goal difference (winning 2-0 against Nepal).
