At noon on December 17th, the press conference ahead of the SEA Games 33 men's football final between the U22 Thailand and U22 Vietnam teams took place at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok).
Speaking at the press conference, coach Kim Sang Sik said: "We reached the final thanks to the support of Vietnamese fans, the efforts of the players, and the contributions of all the staff in the team."
There's a Vietnamese proverb that says, "With perseverance, even iron can be sharpened into a needle." Because the whole team has put in their best effort, I hope for a good result in tomorrow's final match."
Assessing the U22 Thailand team, coach Kim Sang Sik highly praised his opponent. He said: "U22 Thailand is well-organized. They have many players with good individual ability, physical fitness, and speed."
Yotsakorn Burapha (the leading scorer with 6 goals) has scored in this tournament in many diverse ways. Therefore, we also need to pay attention to him.
"Central defender Ly Duc and the other defenders need to defend well for us to achieve a good result. The Vietnam U22 team will strive to prepare for a good match against the host team, Thailand U22."
Responding to a question about the referee, coach Kim Sang Sik stated that the referee's role is crucial in the final match. He said: "Tomorrow's final is very important for both teams. I think the most important thing is that the players from both teams play safely and avoid injuries."
The role of the referee is extremely important. We hope the referees will do their job well to protect the players and create conditions for both teams to play fairly, so that tomorrow's match can be played to the fullest extent possible."
The Vietnamese national team defeated Thailand 3-2 in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 final in January at the Rajamangala Stadium, thereby winning the championship with an aggregate score of 5-3.
Therefore, Mr. Kim is also confident that the Vietnam U22 team will follow in the footsteps of their predecessors and win the gold medal at the SEA Games 33, right here at the Rajamangla Stadium.
He said: "In January, the national team lifted the championship trophy in this stadium. Therefore, I hope that tomorrow, the U22 players will also enjoy the same joy, so that Vietnamese football can conclude 2025 on a high note."
