On December 17th, the 34th Army Corps Command and the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a ceremony to hand over the first house in the province during the "Quang Trung Campaign," a rapid effort to rebuild homes for people in flood-affected areas.
The first house in the campaign in Gia Lai province was handed over to the family of Mrs. To Thi Sua, 88 years old, residing in Chanh Hoi village, Ngo May commune (formerly Cat Chanh commune, Phu Cat district, Binh Dinh province).
The sturdy 55m² house was completed in a mere 12 days, from the time the 34th Army Corps launched the "Quang Trung campaign," thanks to the tireless efforts of the soldiers of the 7th Engineering Brigade.
"Advance with the spirit of Quang Trung's swiftness, working day and night, making the most of every moment and every resource, and at all costs ensuring new homes for the people to celebrate Tet. This is a command from the heart, selflessly serving the people; the spirit is that wherever the people are in need, the army must be there!" - Major General Nguyen Tran Long, Deputy Political Commissar of the 34th Army Corps, stated that this was the order the Army Corps assigned to its forces when entering the campaign.
To complete the first house in just 12 days of rapid deployment, the officers and soldiers of the 7th Engineering Brigade truly dedicated their hearts and minds, working tirelessly day and night, regardless of sun or rain.
The construction teams were divided into shifts, working day and night, in both rain and sunshine. Despite the immense time pressure and heavy workload, not a single soldier felt tired from participating in helping the people.
Sitting comfortably in her newly built house, still smelling of fresh paint, and looking up at the spacious attic, Mrs. Sửa smiled brightly. She said she was relieved that from now on she would no longer fear wind, rain, storms, or floods, and could happily live peaceful days with her children and grandchildren.

When she returned home after escaping Typhoon No. 13, seeing her house with its corrugated iron roof blown away and several walls collapsed, the old woman's heart was almost broken. The home that had been her sanctuary for almost her entire life had suddenly turned into a pile of rubble, sweeping away her possessions, belongings, and all the happy and sad memories of her life.
She thought the hardships would continue for a long time, but unexpectedly, just 12 days after the soldiers laid the first stone, she was sitting in her new house.
Mr. Cao Van Muoi (55 years old), son of Mr. Sua, said he was deeply moved that throughout the days and nights working on the construction site, the officers and soldiers of the 7th Engineering Brigade never bothered his family with anything, not even a glass of water.
The officers and soldiers proactively take care of everything from food and accommodation to sleeping arrangements, minimizing any impact on their families' lives.
"Many times, seeing how hard the soldiers were working, I bought them some fruit, energy drinks, and boxed milk to nourish them, but they all refused, not using them, and even told me not to bother taking care of them on their behalf. This affection deeply moved and touched everyone in the family, young and old, and we don't know how to repay them!" - Mr. Mười shared.
