Tottenham coach mocks Wenger

Ange Postecoglou has hit back at Arsene Wenger after the former Arsenal manager made controversial comments about the Europa League winners' Champions League spot.

Coach Postecoglou hopes to win the Europa League this season.

“Well, it feels like this debate has been going on for years – even though it has only been around for the last eight days,” Postecoglou told The Guardian , sarcastically referring to Wenger’s comments.

“I have never heard that before,” he said. “I have said it before, my friends (reporters), Spurs drive people crazy. I mean it.”

On May 5, Wenger, who is currently FIFA's director of global football development, called on UEFA to review the rule of awarding Champions League spots to the Europa League champions.

Speaking on BeIN SPORTS , he said: “I think it’s unfair. The Europa League winners should only qualify for the Europa League next season, not the Champions League, especially when you’re playing in the Premier League, which already has five places.”

Wenger's comments clearly upset Tottenham and Manchester United, who are hoping to win the Europa League this season to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Coach Postecoglou then said harshly: "Why did no one see a problem with that rule before (the Europa League champion will play in the Champions League), but now it has become a problem? What's the difference? I don't understand what the difference is. The rules of the tournament clearly state that the champion team will get a ticket to the Champions League, and this is not the first year."

"I have a lot of respect for Arsene. He is one of the legends of football, but everything about Spurs makes people crazy, guys. I like it, let them continue. It makes people uncomfortable, and that makes me happy," coach Postecoglou sarcastically said.
