Vietnam team lost to Iraq due to conceding a goal in the last minute of extra time
Despite the great pressure from the Iraqi team at My Dinh Stadium on the evening of November 21, coach Philippe Troussier and his team still played a resilient defense to protect goalkeeper Dang Van Lam's net until the 90+7 minute of extra time.
When everyone watching the match thought it would be a draw, midfielder Ibrahim Bayesh tried to dribble the ball on the right wing before crossing for striker Ali to head the ball into the net of goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, surprising all the players and coaching staff of the Vietnamese team.

The Vietnamese players also expressed their disappointment, with many players collapsing on the field after the goal came in the last second of the match.
However, according to many football experts, the Vietnamese team deserved to lose this match when they played poorly against Iraq despite playing at home at My Dinh Stadium with the cheers of nearly 40,000 fans.
Coach Philippe Troussier's team did not have a single shot on target, while the Vietnamese team endured 16 shots from the West Asian representative (8 of which were on target).

Despite fielding three strikers in the starting lineup, the Vietnamese team was forced to play defensively deep in their own half and could barely hold the ball in midfield.
"The fact that we conceded a goal in the last minute made me disappointed. Facing a team with strong physique and strength like Iraq, I had a reasonable tactical plan.
They have much more technique and class than us. This goal makes me feel sad, because the players' efforts did not bring the final result. They played their best, unfortunately everything did not go as expected," coach Troussier explained the playing style that led to the "Golden Dragons" defeat at the press conference after the match.
Despite losing to Iraq, the Vietnamese team still maintained second place in Group F when in the previous match, the Indonesian team was held to a 1-1 draw by the Philippines in Manila (Philippines).
