On December 21, a cross-border market between Vietnam and Laos was held in Lao Bao town (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province). The market was even more special with the presence of the new Miss Vietnam Nguyen Ngoc Thao Nguyen.

According to Quang Tri provincial authorities, this is the first time a cross-border market between Vietnam and Laos has been held.

There were a total of 50 booths of traders in Quang Tri province and border villages such as Phuong and Densavan, in Sepon district (Savannakhet province, Laos) participating.

These stalls sell specialties with the unique cultural identity of the Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic groups in Huong Hoa district as well as specialties from villages in Laos.

However, the "hot spot" of the market was the presence of Miss Nguyen Ngoc Thao Nguyen, who was crowned Miss Vietnam in mid-December. Miss Thao Nguyen is from Huong Hoa. She is currently a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

At the market, Thao Nguyen gave gifts to students and households in difficult circumstances, and at the same time contributed to introducing and promoting some agricultural products and brands of local people.

Mr. Ho Dai Nam - Head of the Propaganda Department of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee - said the purpose of this market is to "awaken" the value of ethnic minority villages along the border between the two countries.

"This is also an opportunity for people on both sides of the border to exchange and connect with each other," said Mr. Nam.
