Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan, former Acting Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, President of the Association of Vietnamese Retailers (AVR) spoke with reporters:
Madam, the 1st Autumn Fair 2025 with the theme “Connecting people with production and business”, the event marks the beginning of a new journey – where commerce, culture and creativity come together in a space of integration and prosperity. This is the first time Vietnam has organized a national Autumn Fair. How do you evaluate this Fair?
At the end of the year, we are accelerating to break through the targets of total retail sales and service revenue, with a growth target of 12%, contributing to achieving the country's GDP growth rate of 8%.
This Autumn Fair takes place very timely, is a lever to stimulate demand to help increase total retail sales and service revenue by the end of 2025. At the same time, it is the biggest opportunity for production and business enterprises of 34 provinces and cities to converge, trade, and connect between producers, distributors and consumers.
The fair also creates a great spread, helping consumers feel secure in buying quality goods at reasonable prices. Businesses increase promotional programs, promote their products to consumers and create momentum for production and business development in 2026.
So what is your strongest impression of the 1st Fall Fair 2025?
My impression is that this year's fair has 6 "bests" - something that no national fair has achieved in recent years.
Those "best" things have created a big buzz, strong influence, stimulated consumption, created confidence for consumers, and were an important push to achieve 12% growth in total retail sales this year.
Madam, with the changing trends of consumers in today's era, what changes do retailers need to make to meet market needs?
Currently, consumer trends are changing dramatically, forcing retailers across the country to change to better serve people's consumption needs.
First of all, retailers must actively transform digitally, digitize products and service programs, so that consumers can trace the origin of products and feel secure during the shopping process.
The second is to create experiential models - both selling and having experiential models to attract customers to come and visit, have fun, and shop in a comfortable space.
Third, it is necessary to link and develop a synchronous logistics system, reduce costs, improve product competitiveness and connect many regions to serve people's needs.
Fourth, businesses must rapidly develop retail infrastructure networks, especially in remote areas, densely populated areas, and high-rise buildings. Retail models also need to be diverse, from large shopping malls to convenience stores, convenience stores, to quickly reach people.
Fifth, retail businesses must change their service style, payment methods, and improve the quality of human resources to meet new consumer demands.
And sixth is to have green transformation - towards green retail, green distribution, green consumption, with environmentally friendly products, in line with the current trend of protecting health and the environment.
So, in your opinion, what policies are needed from state management agencies to enable Vietnamese and domestic goods to access modern distribution channels?
In order for products to be able to enter the modern distribution system and meet the standards and criteria according to international regulations as well as domestic regulations, first of all, on the production side, the state needs to support production facilities and farmers to invest in technology to produce goods that ensure food safety, traceability, and meet domestic and international standards. At the same time, it is necessary to support trade promotion so that farmers and businesses can access modern retail distribution channels, helping to promote products and increase consumer demand.
Regarding the retail system, the government should support businesses to invest in retail infrastructure in remote, isolated, and rural areas, so that people can consume products right at their location. From there, goods are distributed widely throughout the country, and can even be exported directly through foreign retail systems.
In addition, it is necessary to train high-quality human resources, support digital transformation, develop transport and logistics infrastructure, build shopping centers, warehouses, and logistics warehouses to facilitate the circulation of goods from production sites to the distribution system.
Thank you very much!
