On the morning of October 29, within the framework of the 2025 Autumn Fair, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a trade promotion conference with the Vietnamese trade office system abroad in October 2025.

With the theme “Promoting the Vietnamese private economic sector to expand its international presence and deeply integrate into the global value chain through the Go Global 2026-2035 program”, the conference is the first step in the national strategy to support Vietnamese enterprises to “reach out to the world”.

Ms. Mai Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning, Finance and Enterprise Management (Ministry of Industry and Trade), said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is presiding over the development of the Go Global program - Reaching out to the international market for the period 2026 - 2035, aiming to create a launching pad for Vietnamese enterprises to firmly integrate and affirm their position in the global market.

Go Global is a comprehensive strategy implemented by many countries such as the US, Japan, and South Korea, aiming to simultaneously promote the fields of export, investment, technology, culture, and economic diplomacy . In Vietnam, this process is associated with integration milestones such as joining ASEAN (1995), WTO (2007) and participating in new generation FTAs such as CPTPP, EVFTA.

After nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has become one of the world's top 20 exporting countries, with nearly 1 million private enterprises contributing about 30% of the country's export turnover. However, exports are still mainly led by the FDI sector, while domestic enterprises only participate in low value-added stages.

Faced with that reality, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is finalizing the draft of the “Go Global” program, expected to be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval in 2025. The program aims to increase the proportion of private sector exports to 50-60% by 2030, forming 20 enterprises leading the global value chain, along with 30 pioneering enterprises in niche markets.

According to the draft, “Go Global” will be implemented in 3 phases: 2026–2027 to perfect institutions and build an ecosystem to support businesses entering the international market.

In the 2028-2030 period, pilot a pioneering business model to promote cross-border e-commerce. In the 2031-2035 period, expand and strengthen the support network for Vietnamese businesses to deeply integrate into the global value chain.

The program also identifies four main pillars: Developing a deep, broad and multi-modal market strategy; building a team of global entrepreneurs with innovative thinking; forming a group of pioneering, multinational Vietnamese enterprises; building the “Go Global” Information Portal and a consulting and data network to support Vietnamese enterprises going abroad.

Notably, the program will promote overseas investment through M&A, logistics development, export credit, and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in cross-border e-commerce to reduce costs and expand scale.
