Online conference to adjust Power Plan VIII

On the afternoon of February 23, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired an online conference to adjust the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (Power Plan VIII). At the Bac Ninh bridge, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Tan Phuong chaired.

The VIII Power Plan was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 500 dated May 15, 2023 with many new points compared to previous plans, such as "Dynamic and open", optimal development of power sources with the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 according to Vietnam's commitment at the COP26 Conference. The project to adjust the VIII Power Plan consists of 12 Chapters. The plan studies and calculates a number of different scenarios and options to ensure objectivity, science, and strict compliance with the order and procedures in planning, appraisal and approval. The project complies with documents of the Party and State on strategic orientations for socio -economic development, energy development strategy, national master plan, closely following and fully absorbing the directions of the Government Standing Committee, Government leaders, comments from ministries, branches, localities, relevant domestic and foreign organizations and associations, etc.

At the conference, delegates discussed, clarified a number of contents and proposed recommendations: It is necessary to issue a mechanism to encourage the development of wind power and solar power; Have sanctions for projects that are behind schedule; Develop a mechanism on electricity prices; Allow the expansion of energy sources from lakes and waste; Decentralize the approval of a number of energy projects to provinces and cities; Add factories and increase gas power capacity;….
